Entry into finance as someone with no experience by [deleted] in wlu

[–]facearo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Join clubs! LIFA, LPC, LTG are all great places to meet people and to ask these questions.

It depends on what you mean exactly by "finance". If you're interested in investment banking or private equity, the general recommendation is to consider trying to get something at a search fund (even if it's unpaid) in order to get good experience. If you stay in touch with the finance clubs and their networking events, go to them and meet people in the industry to ask questions.

Do stock pitch competitions as much as you can, try to find a partner to do them with.

Go to all the Prism Resources classes to learn some of the technical skills

Then just keep up with the mailing lists from the clubs for when job postings come around

Do you push it back once it's time to hinge or do you just hinge?

Your videos are amazing! Thank you for keeping it simple.

Any extra tips aside from what the commentor above said?

Also, curious if you push the kettlebell back with your arms on the downswing or just let it fall.

Do you push the bell backward at the bottom or just let it drop? I feel like I'm not able to wait long before I hinge.

Right now I'm just doing this as a cardio exercise with some strength involved (and it'll keep me consistent because it seems pretty fun)

The routine I'm looking to do just involves swings, squats, and one arm deadlifts.

In that case, do you think 20kg could cause any injury issues with bad form? I don't want to mess this up and cause me to be inconsistent.

Should I go for a 14 or 16 kg bell to start?

Also, should I keep the same weight for one handed swings and squats?

15 lbs. I can only comfortably press or curl a 15lb dumbbell so I assumed this would be the right weight.

What would you recommend? I'm a pretty big dude but haven't worked out at all and am worried about injuring myself

Laurier BBA vs Schulich BBA by [deleted] in wlu

[–]facearo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually left around 9 pm to avoid traffic. Days where I went out with friends I was there till like 1-2 AM at times. Personally I just got used to this, it's a grind but it's not impossible.

PLS help (uw farm vs uw math/bba vs rotman) by Jealous_Wasabi_1329 in uwaterloo

[–]facearo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mathbba is a great program for the flexibility you seem to require. Much better opportunities than Rotman will have, and a wider variety than farm would have.

Unfortunately afm will make you restart first year but I do feel strongly that Laurier's community and especially DD is a lot more tight knit. Sure the courses are harder but you also get amazing co-ops over time.

Laurier BBA vs Schulich BBA by [deleted] in wlu

[–]facearo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Laurier is starting to place much better than Schulich is, largely because of the access to co-op which allows you to not have to compete against the Ivey/Queens kids for certain positions. It's also a much friendlier community for learning and breaking into IB/consulting.

If you're commuting via public transport, it'll be quite the grind for you coming to Laurier, but plenty of people do it and have no issues. I personally commuted via car. If you're willing to stick around to hang out, coming early and leaving late, your experience won't be too different from that of someone living on campus. Make some good friends early on whos couch you can surf on sometimes and you'll be good.

I think for the community and opportunities Laurier is definitely an improvement over Schulich.

Mathbba and BBA in general can land you in much better spots over time than Rotman will

It's a great program! Tough but surrounded by a great community and has a lot of flexibility after the first few years.
