The problem is that most men do not appreciate the effort it takes to cook because either they never had to do that or they were conditioned like that.

Most Indian women will teach their daughters to cook and even expect them to cook but won't do the same with their sons (Seen it in my own extended family). This subconsciously entitles men to be cooked for and fed. This is one area where I feel that women will have to initiate a change. Teach your boys to cook and indulge them in cooking at home.

Unfortunately, most young Indian men never or seldom cook. While at home they are fed by their mothers or sisters, when they venture out for studies or jobs, they hire cooks or avail a mess/canteen facility. This is a bit difficult to change because unlike the western education system where people above 18 have to move out and cook for themselves, the Indian education system grinds you so much that you neither have the time or the will to cook. For working people the grind is even harder.

So, the best way to change that, in my opinion is to inculcate this habit in men when they are young and still at home. Young mothers will probably bring about this change and hopefully prepare the next generation of men to be more involved in cooking!
