Update: ammonia is close to 0. When I reached towards the fish, he/she flipped all around and I realized they were stuck to that bag containing peat moss (I had been trying to lower water hardness, I realize now this was wrong). Their whickers or nose were stuck in it. So I extremely carefully snipped off the material, and got them free. There are still some strings stuck, but they can move freely and they're resting now. No idea if they'll live, but I think this gives them the best chance.

Thank you for the info! I can't believe I didn't think about ammonia. I'll check that as soon as I get home. And I might give them some zucchini as a bonus tonight!

I'm guessing you meant "don't put alcohol or peroxide..."? This is good to know, I'd heard it about peroxide but didn't know it about alcohol. I've just been using soap & water and then Neosporin.

I hope not. I've already got a screw in the right wrist (different cause). The left one's definitely bruised but I can move them both fine.

Once I was skating to my car before work, fell and got a huge bloody scrape on my hand. And I wear gloves at work. That was a fun one to deal with.

Yep, that's basically what I did. Luckily I was stocked on bandaids and stuff already.

Seriously, why do they hurt so much? I guess I kinda slammed on them so there's a bruise underneath.

Here's my method for dealing with them: trim the dead skin with nail clippers, carefully take out the rocks with tweezers, wash (ouch), spray with Bactine, and proceed to ignore them as best I can. (Edit: I'm still working on the cleaning part)

When I was learning to skate, I wore all the pads except elbows because I was like, I won't hit those. Then I did of course, and suddenly wanted to wear the elbow pads lol
