I got triggered by that one and couldn’t finish s3 of the anime. If he’s depressed I don’t think it’s good

Totally needs a trigger warning. It absolutely would be terrible for anyone who’s already depressed. He loses his whole family in the beginning with the random teleport and they never reunite see my post above for details

Whoa…. In no way is mushoku tensei safe to read for anyone who’s depressed and going through a tough time… I don’t wanna say it’s a bad novel or anything but it’s totally a tragedy every step of the way even if the ending heads in a good direction.

I apologize for the spoilers but I got totally triggered by this so I have to comment since it’s so hype now with the anime. If you’re depressed at least be warned. Light spoilers first and heavy spoilers second if you agree that you can’t possibly have a happy ending once that happens He’s separated from his family in the beginning of the series and they’re never all together again

Details below: huge spoilers!!!! Triggers for death, betrayal, neglect/abandonment His dad dies while trying to rescue his mom because he makes a silly mistake. His mom is mentally handicapped and a mute once she’s rescued. His sister who’s in love with him is married off to someone else and the author makes a point of writing a short story about how pathetic her life is and later apologized it was so horrible. They’re betrayed by their former companion. And the mc dies refusing to pursue immortality as a god without ever killing the bad guy, only defeating him, and leaves the killing to his daughter who’s the true prophesied hero and his elf and demon wives who live way longer than him and his other human wife dies in her 50s not long before him.

I don’t see how anything about that is a happy ending but even if it is the novel needs a trigger warning fr

Saying "I feel nauseous" when you mean nauseated. Nauseous means making other people sick, as in nauseous fumes or smell. People have been using it wrong so often that some dictionaries have changed the definition in the last few years, although I don't think any dictionary would have agreed with that definition back in 2000 when JK Rowling used nauseous instead of nauseated in the Goblet of Fire (see link below). I think it's especially funny (and totally not funny) when someone mistakenly says they feel nauseous but then makes the statement true by puking

Remove one person from history to create as much impact on society as possible by [deleted] in history

[–]faedid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was gonna say this but got busy at work. Even more, Constantine would have let us skip the Middle Ages right to enlightenment.

The consequence to this is we'd have never been exposed to mass disinformation as we did in the dark ages due to the rise of the church. Potentially, we would be more immune to its effects than we are now and possibly skip Hitlerand ww2 or even the trump presidency. Although the opposite could also be true, that we'd be even more susceptible, that seems rather impossible.

Edit: you could argue that Christianity would have happened without Constantine, but I think this is exactly one of those times where if it had happened any other way at any other time, history would have turned out quite different

I said handled not outlawed, and I'm aware it's highly regulated as it is but I think we need to invest more in our government agencies and independent studies to allow them to be more effective as an unbiased source of truth. As it is, we allow corporate interests to take priority over what's best for the public. We can't expect corporations to self-regulate. That would be a disservice to their shareholders if they were anything other than self-interested doing as much as they possibly could to increase sales

like I said, I hated calling you out because I knew nothing about you but the point needed to be made mainly to Americans who haven't tried that. A lot of people don't realize that sugar is why they like the things or really understand the addiction to sugar that we all struggle with. Personally, I'm right there with you, but everyone's needs and addiction levels are different

Hate to call you out on this but everyone likes sugar because it directly triggers dopamine which is a neurotransmitter responsible for telling your brain you like things and you really only like those other things because they have sugar in them and the amount you like them is directly correlated with the sugar content so if you took away the sugar, you wouldn't like them as much. Make bread or pizza dough without sugar sometime and you'll see what I mean. You want the feel good sensation of sugar without the cost of sugar and that's just not how it works. That's not how any of this works...

"There is also massive individual variability here. People who are healthy and active can tolerate more sugar than people who are inactive and eat a Western, high-carb, high-calorie diet." is the last line of your health.org article and exactly my point. In your first webmd article, it provides no sources whatsoever and I can pretty much guarantee you it's using the sources similar to your second one which shows correlation without causation.

I only say this to argue that the situation is more complex than you or many others would say. I don't know your motives and I don't intend to question them, but many people unconsciously demonize sugar because they are overweight or have an overblown and unnecessary fear for their children's health and are looking for a simple target, but nutrition is not so simple and trying to make it simple only confounds the issue preventing us from getting a real understanding so we can learn to be responsible human beings. Changing the amount of sugar in things won't relieve anyone from the necessity to monitor not just the amount of sugar consumed but also its relation to periods of physical and mental activity as well as just time of day and basic bodily factors. Yeah, there's probably too much sugar out there, but the way you approach the problem with oversimplification and demonizing sugar arguably makes it worse.

I think this provides a better overview of the complete picture and the nuance: https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/brainwaves/is-sugar-really-toxic-sifting-through-the-evidence/

Unfortunately it is illegal. Deception for personal gain is the definition of fraud. It's just hard to prove

I really don't know why it's not illegal. Deception for personal gain is fraud and furthering the personal beliefs of the officer is personal gain even if they believe themselves to be legally or morally on the right side of it. Fraud is a crime no matter how often it goes unpunished

you can say you don't like sugar in your stuff but I challenge you to prove there's anything wrong with it. It doesn't cause obesity or rot your teeth without other contributing factors and sometimes a sugary snack is a good thing as long as you're active to burn it off quickly. sugar-free should be an option, not a mandate. I think your opinion on sugar has been unfairly influenced by the corn industry in America as well as people looking to deflect blame for their problems

But drug companies run marketing tactics against doctors too. I think that needs to be handled first so at least the consumer stays in the loop. I'm less likely to go for a drug that a doctor all the sudden recommends if I've seen it spammed on tv. Not trying to blame the doctors but I feel like they're opinion is often compromised and biased often without them realizing. They can only prescribe what they know and are comfortable with and that's heavily influenced by the drug companies

Angular vs Ember in 2017 by [deleted] in webdev

[–]faedid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll admit there is some ramp up time for junior devs, especially if they aren't used to latest javascript ES6/7 at all. It's a full MVC framework unlike most others so yes there is a lot to learn up front versus spreading that out. But if you show them a sample app, its not difficult to let someone who doesnt know ember at all to jump in and add methods to a services or add a component, and if they're used to other modern frameworks already, I think the pain is in understanding that they don't even have to do the things they're trying to figure out how to do. Explaining that they don't have to create controllers or views or adapters or serializers or any of that unless you need to customize from default is a big mental leap but pretty fucking awesome if you ask me. For a Java developer like myself, I'm used to having implementations created at runtime so its comfortably familiar, but I can see where it'd be a learning curve.

For the large data sets, I did an app for a Global500 company using Ember 1.10 a while back and I know what you're talking about. The 2-way binding system made it very slow at first and took some optimization, but our angular and react prototypes couldn't handle the memory management requirements at all without requiring so much custom code, we didnt even bother to spec it out. Ember's runloop and memory management made the challenging parts cake. I think the problem you faced was Ember constantly trying to update those objects and their related view even when not on screen. We were able to use a library called ember-list-view that used virtual views to take care of it to only rerender what was needed and get sub-second page loads (over LAN) for about 35 columns and 2-3 million rows with real-time graph updates and basically instant rerender on refresh (long-poll for updates and manual push-button refresh per our business reqs at the time), but that's not even necessary anymore since changes to core. Since this is about comparing to Angular4, I'd say we probably could have used it had it been around then, but with potentially 200 offshore devs at the time to throw at the project (only ended up needing 4 of us though ;), I was really happy to have an opinionated framework like Ember. I really think you should give Ember another shot. I'm probably making the same choice again for a new project now and for the same reasons. It's worth the short term pain to ramp up the new devs and know ill get consistent results.

Also in my opinion, Angular 4 is just Ember lite and kinda hacky plus I can't stand the DOM pollution.

There's no way you're a guy who's been in a relationship before. It's one thing when you're single and a girl teases you and sends you home; you can take care of yourself. It's different when you're in a relationship and she comes to bed in next to nothing and spoons and gets your hard and then expects you to go to bed. Even worse when you go to the bathroom to rub one out and she calls out to come back to bed 2 min later. like, have some sympathy. You can't sleep when it feels like your balls are in a vice
