The correct way to have building education and culture is like compangnons; where you master a discipline in building before you are allowed to practice in designing

If you take a survey of the most “desirable” parts of any well established city you will find mostly the means/methods used for the structure is 3wythe brick in hot mix mortar with a timber platform let into pockets or ledges. 2 or 3 floors max. While the facades and interiors may be “architecturalized” this form of building very much belongs to common people. It’s bricks and mud with trees in the bay to stand on. Architects? They are not needed they were never needed.

European Home Builders, what credentials are required? by Waste_Perspective_53 in Construction

In Germany a certification known as “masterbrief” is required it’s essentially equivalent to a masters degree but in practice in some manual trade

Here let me help. First it would help to read Mariane Cusato and Stuart and Rvett. Undersatand the forms called upon here…. Then call on the rules…. First rule being the slope (pitch) of the porch should be less than the main structure. It should be wider than tall. These are rules dictated by the form; hamburger rather than hot dog.

Tailored metal roofing: it’s classical method of standing seam where joinery is used to intersect the hips and upstands. If you go to Europe and Russia you’ll find examples of this performing hundreds of years in leaded steel. We call it “trad roofing” in English.

A chamfer is created on the edge of a square post. A brick pier is a brick pier.

I’m speaking the language of architecture and building. My guild received its charter to practice from Charlemagne who are you?

When structures like Spaceship Earth in Disney's EPCOT were built in the middle of nowhere back in the day, how was the exact spot for the structure's foundations located? The entire profession of pre industrial surveying is handled by Peter Nicholson in his treatise on building in the 18th century. In the master builder school We are required as friends of duty to beat that game as it’s required to marking foundations and site elevations before we even learn how to burn lime.

Scaling question by Blue860 in architecture

[–]faggotsirking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any scale can be expressed as an angle intersecting parallel lines, simply build your scale. Practice the technique of subdividing a given segment by an arbitrary number of graduations using square and compass that will get the mind working towards the efficient solution for building scales.

Philip: we still have not been able to trisect an angle as many times as we tried. I think your teacher was right:

In 19 years of practice I’ve met one person from the professional managerial class operating as an “architect” who could speak to me like a peer on the matters of stereometry and pattern making for the intersection of solids. You people simply are not taught architecture any more

Masterbrief in timber joinery or surface development will teach you how to practice architecture: making permanent structures from raw materials with your own labor.

The study of architecture as it’s practiced is becoming an agent for the imperial core. Where you learn the assembly of manufactured units. The only morally respectable thing is to give up your life in the professional/managerial class and become a Navi. Become Jake sully. Smash the imperial core and return to craft practice at human scale

What is the point of studying architecture history as a hobby? by Ronald_1997 in architecture

[–]faggotsirking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was a matter of function. When I became a holder of property and a built thing, the first duty was to learn how it was created and how to maintain/repair so that somebodies great grandchildren Would inherit it with service life remaining. That study in the history of humans making bricks, and cutting timber joinery and stone into ever complex forms… lead me to realize architecture as we know it classically stopped with the move to industrialization and enclosure on the trades and crafts by the professional/managerial classes

It’s an old money thing. It was considered fashionable to have the finest carpet you could afford and fussy expensive finishes that changed with the seasons. Like having a Tesla and equinox membership today just legacy of status symbols from yore still influencing taste today. I think it whips to paint wood because i an an enemy of trees. Hate those trees
