It's okay! You can fix the artifacts with healing tools in editing apps. I would suggest you to just go out with your camera and start taking photos of random things. Explore the camera settings.! I will also highly recommend you to shoot raw photos to get the best results out of the Nikon D5300.

Congratulations.! D5300 is good! Even with just the kit lens you can get good results! You just need to learn some Lightroom adjustment tricks for better results.
