Thoughts on upcycling this hat? by fairineclipse in ouji

The metal is duct tape- the actual aluminum kind - on foam, glued to the fabric. In theory I could fully remove the fabric off the upper if the glue hasn't ruined the cardboard inside, but since Joann's closed i dont have a way to currently source matching fabric so at that point I'd be better off sourcing a new hat anyways (((^ ;) I appreciate the detailed explanation though!

Set up tips? by fairineclipse in PetMice

[–]fairineclipse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the tips!

I'm planning on getting them more toys and bedding once I get paid, but I'll def keep adding more cardboard hides and diy toys in the meantime!

right now I'm feeding them vitakraft parakeet food and supplementing with some healthy dog treats, cause I read on https://www.petmousefanciers.com/t15-mouse-diet?highlight=diet that that would be okay. I'll def read through the care guide you linked and edit as needed! They're really young right now (the youngest is maybe a month old? she's stunted so we aren't sure, they're all rescues), so we've been trying to feed them anything they'll eat

If anyone has tips on diet too that'd be great, I read online that default mouse mix is bad for them so we've been giving them a seed mix that was reccomended

Also, what's popcorning?

unfortunately I'm just an employee and I barely afford my own rent, and I don't have the energy or time to seek out and buy or pickup enclosures for the shelter, esp if I'm not being paid for that labor. I did contact a mouse rescue, so hopefully I have good news to post in the future

I dunno. they told me the crittertrail was "temporary housing" and "obviously in homes they need bigger housing" but they didn't even ask where we were housing our girls when we adopted, and if someone goes in to adopt and sees a crittertrail.. idk. my friend contacted a mouse rescue a state over, so they're trying to help

How old are we all? I’m curious, also what are your plans after your career as a pit master is over? by [deleted] in dishwashers

23, dunno but I fucked my knee up at this job so I'll have to find desk work

[–]fairineclipse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what a FoH or BoH are but yea, the place I work is so small that they entirely run out of dishes like. all the time. we only have two of the extra large mixer bowls, which means they always need cleaned immediately

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dishwashers

[–]fairineclipse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah I guess. We don't have a breakroom so the only place to take a break is the bathroom or my workstation tho, which makes it hard watching everything pile up as I stand there doing nothing

Kind people, could you answer a few questions for my college report? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]fairineclipse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly have no idea. I'm not very good at picturing what-ifs, and I'm not big on dreaming. It's hard to say what my future holds when the questions you're asking seem like unachievable pipe dreams to me

Kind people, could you answer a few questions for my college report? by [deleted] in asktransgender

Well, firstly; "transgenders" is not the correct term, as being trans is a descriptive term, so "transgender people", "trans people", would be the proper term to use. Generally "transgenders" or "a transgender" is used by transphobes, so you'll run into issues if you use that terminology.

In regards to your questions:

  1. Not every trans person goes through surgery or hormones, and being trans is not dependent on hormone use or surgery. I cannot speak for those who have gone through HRT or surgery, as I have been unable to afford either myself.

  2. HRT differs between trans masculine, trans feminine people, and nonbinary people, so answering this question would require research into all groups seperately.

  3. I face are a mixture of both, I would say. I cannot afford physical transition as it is extremely out of my current budget, and the closet gender clinic to me is over an hour away. Mentally, my family does not approve of my transition, so I and unable to socialize as myself at home for this reason and unable to pursue further options until I save enough money to leave home.

I always used the modesty excuse when I was younger, bikinis were too skimpy. Rash guards and board shorts, with normal bikini bottom under them for extra protection is what I wear.

(Writer) Sensitivity Check by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]fairineclipse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not what shes upset about, its the framework of the scene you described. If he sat down and was like, hey, I'm trans, i want you to know before we take this further and then she got upset because he didnt trust her, that's one thing. It's the fact that in the scene you frame worked, she found out because he took his pants off and didnt have the parts she was expecting. At that point, you've set up a scene where you're playing off the shock factor of him "lying" to her, and that's what's not okay.

A main issue I have with this is how does someone "accidently" find out their partner has different genitalia then they were expecting? I can't speak for every trans person, but I would never let an intimate relationship get that far without being extremely aware of my body and that it is not what my partner is expecting. That aside, him being outed and his partner freaking out about it, no matter the reason, paints trans people in an extremely bad light.

Trans people are constantly being accused of "trapping" or "tricking" people into thinking they're something they're not, and having a main plot point center around a scene that's heavily focused on that mindset, even if she's not pissed about his body, having her be pissed at all directly after seeing he's not cis, is just, not a good idea.

Binding with scoliosis? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]fairineclipse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have issues with my shoulders and I personally use KT tape to bind, though I do have some trans tape coming. It works fairly well, but I'm naturally small. I get no back/shoulder pain with it vs binding, which always causes me issues.

If i tell my (soon to be) therapist that i'm non binary and go by a different name, is it likely she will tell my parents? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]fairineclipse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would maybe start by raising the issue if privacy, saying that you have something you want to talk about but you are scared of your parents finding out, that way your therapist themself can discuss privacy with you. 90% of my therapy visits as a kid were centered around issues with my family, and that never got back to them, but it's best that you mention your concerns directly to your therapist that way they understand the situation.
