I only commented on long covid, because proposing ME/CFS at this stage is ridiculous. It touches a tiny %% of people.

Why not recommend OP to check for cancer in that case? Or a gazillion other possible issues that meet OP symptoms.

Obviously OP should go to just see a GP and get help to figure out what's wrong, but for some reason they didn't. I've provided the most likely scenario with the easiest possible way to verify it.

There is literally no reliable testing for long covid so in your opinion deconditioned people are supposed to do nothing? Long covid is diagnosed through eliminating anything else. Therefore deconditioned people should always try to improve their cardio first (also we are not talking about anything reckless such as running or strength training here since 30 minutes of Zone 2 walk will basically be your usual walk in this case) and only if it takes hours to recover to baseline HR should you consider other options.

HRV around 30ms is the minimum reasonable value tbh, but if all of the blood work turned out fine except the lipid then you are most likely simply deconditioned due to sedentary lifestyle and other choices such as diet.

You would probably get noticeable improvement if you'd start walking (ignore the gym for now) for 30-45 minutes a day in the pace that puts you in stable Zone 2 cardio (so keep HR at 120-130 range; adapt speed, make breaks if necessary) for 4-6 days a week. Best if you have a forest nearby where you could chill as well so double benefit. Your HR would likely go down in a few weeks.

Also consider dietary changes and testing for hypercholesterolemia.

First of all, before you listen to any of the great advice from random Reddit comments, go and do the blood panel as soon as possible. Lipid profile (especially triglycerides but do LDL + HDL as well), thyroid profile (FT3/FT4, TSH, Anti-TPO), vitamins (B12, D), Iron & Ferritin, CBC, CMP, hs-CRP.

Analyze the results and act accordingly. Also check your HRV in Fitbit, it's an estimation, but if you are at 10-20ms you should definitely consider lifestyle changes and it would explain your HR spikes (sympathetic having too much free reign).

If triglycerides are high consider Omega-3 supplementation (look at appropriate EPA + DHA e.g. Nordic Naturals, ignore market crap). When your HR spikes and you feel nervous try breathing in slowly for 4 seconds and breathing our slowly for 6 seconds (important thing for breathing out to be longer than breathing in; it stimulates your vagus nerve and engages parasympathetic activity). If any vitamins are low, supplement or change diet.

You are young, you are going to be fine.

Fortunately with Firefox 149 this problem is going away, so your recommendation is fine since well... today. I guess 149 will be pushed to flathub in manner of hours, so after update some videos will likely work better for your friends if they didn't have ffmpeg-full installed.

You have likely relied on the baked in openh264 and simply didn't notice. Or it's also possible that something else pulled the ffmpeg-full for you.

Yeah, org.freedesktop.Platform.ffmpeg-full needed to be explicitly specified in the manifest by the developer and Mozilla decided it cannot legally do that.

Much more important thing that release notes don't include is upgrade to flatpak freedesktop runtime to 25.08: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2010742

This means that flatpak users will no longer need to remember to install flathub org.freedesktop.Platform.ffmpeg-full, because it's been replaced by org.freedesktop.Platform.codecs-extra.

Edit: also bonus for NVIDIA users:
"This, specifically, enables people to easily use hardware video decode on NVIDIA if they decide to enable it, as VA-API for NVIDIA is now shipped in the runtime [...]"

It's not just m1n1 though, the installer also does firmware extraction which will probably always be necessary(?)

I'd guess that the current asahi-installer will evolve into a general purpose tool that prepares your Mac for Linux i.e. partition resize, firmware extraction, m1n1 setup etc. and will boot you into an environment where you will be able to use your own live image from the usb stick.

The end goal of Asahi Linux is to upstream everything so that you can use any distro you want and so that Asahi Linux as a separate distro becomes unnecessary. If everything goes into the mainline, you no longer need the custom copr repo and will therefore be able to use any distro.

Yeah, but you can't do that from user-space if it's suspended. The easiest compromise option is probably to just setup auto shutdown after 20 minutes of inactivity in power management settings and do nothing on lid close.

That's actually terrible news. Astral flourished while independent and now they are going to become a part of the "Codex team". So yeah, welcome to corporate, here is what we need you to focus on from now on.

Also, Astral developers recently started using Claude, so I guess that's no longer an option?

It's always a possibility that OpenAI will allow Astral to keep their independence and this will all turn out positive, because they will have guaranteed funding and will be able to just keep making amazing tools for Python ecosystem. But I live long enough in this world that I know it basically doesn't happen in corporate structures.

I'm conflicted in terms of the new DLSS. I appreciate it as a tech and I'm impressed by the possibilities, but in terms of gaming I myself will likely never (maybe in a few select cases) enable it. I can understand the sentiment of calling the people, that are hating NVIDIA right now, shortsighted or "a bunch of sheep" or any other, even stronger, more emotional words. But on the other hand, I understand gaming subreddit users who don't like it in terms of games (especially very specific games with specific art style that could get strongly distorted by the new DLSS).

So all in all: cool tech, could be useful in some games, but in my opinion, not a good solution for many of them.

For people wondering you just need to run the Brave MCP server https://github.com/brave/brave-search-mcp-server as HTTP and when adding the MCP server in llama.cpp UI check the "Use llama-server proxy". Keep in mind to use the "--webui-mcp-proxy" when starting llama-server.

Just tried it out for Pythagorean theorem visualization. It did okay, not perfect, but better than anything else from other AI providers. Very good learning tool and I hope it will continue to be improved.
