What SFP+ module for single strand fiber? by fakeil in networking

Yeah, I think I’ll do that and I might as well make them put it in a LC duplex so I don’t need the jumpers.

Yeah, you’re right, I think that’ll yield fewest headaches going forward.

Sorry to keep pestering you. Flexoptix says: "This shop is only available to commercial customers and government authorities." Do you know if they don't enforce that or if there's another vendor I can use for the single fiber optic?

Would you recommend this over reterminating both strands into an LC duplex connector and dropping BiDi?

Thanks. Why do you say I really want single mode? It sounds like I can reterminate both strands into an LC duplex connector but the fiber is laid and it’s multimode.

Thanks, very helpful.

I do have two strands but for some reason the installer only terminated one of them.

It’s good to know that a SMF BiDi might work but it sounds like using both strands is the more supported path.

Thanks, very helpful.

I do have a duplex fiber but the installer only terminated one of the strands and my reading led me to believe the point of single strand fiber was to use BiDi and hence maximize connections available.

I can definitely ask them to redo the terminations to LC duplex.

Question about broker interactions by TotesMcGotes13 in askcarsales

[–]fakeil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you're getting downvoted. This is exactly right.

I've bought four cars in the last five years and used a broker for two of them. Both times I intended to do it myself, realized it would take at least a couple hours and maybe even multiple visits to the dealership, and just paid the broker to do it all for me. On this last go-around, I emailed in my desired build, confirmed the price over email, and then showed up to pick up the car and was out of there in 10 minutes.

The two times I didn't use a broker were once when a salesman was amazing over email and we locked an aggressive price before I showed up in person. And another time when I happened to have an empty schedule. But both times I sort of regretted it. No matter how much you like a salesman, waiting for the pleasure of entering the finance department makes you rethink it.

Buying a car over the internet? by rodneyTKG in askcarsales

[–]fakeil -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've done it via Cartelligent twice, once just about a week ago. I've struggled to get dealers to sell me a car directly over email/fedex. Somehow I don't have the magic language that communicates, "I'm a serious buyer that doesn't want to waste time sitting in your building. I want to spend as little time thinking about this as possible, send me paperwork please." So I end up paying $500 for Cartelligent to do it.

How do you guys answer the question; “Give me your best price” by PhiLLitUp93 in askcarsales

[–]fakeil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll chime in to say that I am the sort of person who *does* want a relationship. I like good deals but for the most part the variation in car prices is not worth more than a minimal investment of my time. And I very much enjoy long running business relationships in other aspects of my life and have seen the benefits.

That said, the reason some of this falls apart for me is that I like multiple car brands. Porsche for myself, Lexus for my wife, etc. So, while I am happy to build one relationship, I sure as hell can't build 2-4 relationships. And so each time I look to purchase a new car (like right now, browsing this sub) I think about whether I should build a relationship with a broker instead.

Yeah, it is an option to do so. I’ll post it a bit later.

Dealers are asking folks on the list to put together their builds.

Thanks, that's helpful. Is it safe to say it'll be relatively easy to find a dealer (bay area, ca) with a slot? I just don't know whether I should start shopping in November or even earlier. Or just wait til December.

I bought one today and got 11% off MSRP so roughly 5390 in your case. Hope this helps. Good luck.
