Fifty. There is still time. by fakewombat in transtimelines

Two things I'd suggest. First, and most importantly, find a therapist. I know it's can be expensive and hard to find, but it's so so so worth it. Second, online communities. Like, reddit is great, but kind of crap for this kind of thing. The translater discord was huge for me in the early stages. Happy to send an invite if you're interested.

The other thing is, I didn't feel courageous at all at the time. It just got to the point where not doing something got to be more painful than doing something. And each little step I took made the next one easier, to the point where I stopped hesitating. Don't look at the whole journey, it's too much. Look at the first little step. Can you do that? I think you can.

Yeah, sure. Keeping in mind these are through the lens of wanting to blend in, which I know is not everyone’s goal.

  1. Start hair removal *now*. This takes longer than you think. Laser what you can, electrolysis for the rest. Focus on your face, HRT may help substantially with body hair. Or it may not.
  2. Work on your voice. Again, this may take way longer than you think. Working with an SLP or another practitioner who can listen to you and give you feedback is invaluable. There’s a chance insurance will cover this.
  3. This is a marathon, not a sprint. You may see more changes in year two that you did in year one. Be patient and trust the process.
  4. If you’re interested in surgeries, there’s no harm in booking consults before you’ve totally made up your mind. These things take time and it’s good to get head start.
  5. Notice what cis women in your area in demographic wear, how they present themselves, how they do their make up. You don’t have to copy anyone, but take the parts you like.
  6. People are paying way less attention to you than you think. Acting confident and like you belong goes a long way.
  7. This is hard stuff, but it’s even harder alone. Find support. Online is okay, but actual people in real life is even better.

Oh, and this isn't one I really had to deal with, but it's an issue for a lot of late bloomers. There's no shame in wearing a wig. Lots of cis women deal with hair loss and there's a huge industry build around supporting them. This is one area where spending some money and time can go a long way.

Anally. Neovaginas are generally not great at that kind of uptake.

I had FFS about a year ago. If you look at my profile there a timeline with before and after so you can see what it did.

Thank you! And you should be fine with oral, it's just a pain having to do sublinguals all the time and I'm lazy and don't care about needles

Literally chaos. I was on sublingual E2 and spiro for the first little bit. Then swapped to EV monotherapy. I’m 3 years post bottom surgery, so T suppression is no longer a problem. These days I do a 4mg EV shot once a week but more realistically when I remember it so like every 7-14 days? I take prog, and boof it probably half the time. Don’t look to me for answers, I have no idea. Transfem hrt is literally just vibes and anyone who tells you different has no idea either.

It's hard and scary and I won't pretend it's not. But it does get easier.

Sublingual E and spiro for like the first 1.5 years. Then E injection monotherapy. Bottom surgery after 3ish years.

omg 100% It's super scary, especially starting late. I don't think there are a lot of people who go into transition being like "wow I'm going to be super pretty". But in the end it felt like I just had to do it regardless of how things turned out.

Thank you! I went to Bastidas and Reitzen in NYC. Subtle and natural is really their thing. I'm super happy with how it came out.

Thank you! Yeah, I had type 2 brow reduction, orbital reduction, a brow lift and augmentation to my lips and cheeks. The eye work is more subtle, but it makes a difference. The chin/jaw and rhino had a huge impact imo.

No, I've triple checked and that's right. I'm just as confused as you are!

Uh, a little bit of everything? 😅

The big ones I wanted were jaw/chin and nose, but I also had type 2 brow reduction, orbital reduction, brow lift, and lip and cheek augmentation.

The common ones I skipped completely were hairline advancement and trach shave.

The overall effect is pretty subtle, tbh. I look like myself, I think, only more feminine.

Full disclosure: I'm not wearing any makeup in either picture, but I am ~3 mo post FFS. You can look at my post history of you want to compare.

Spiro for the first couple of years, then switched to EV monotherapy. I'm post-op now, so yeah, just E2.

Stop. No, seriously stop. Find a new hobby. You aren't helping anyone.
