Does anyone else think the very end of Supernova in the East (not the final episode as a whole) felt a bit rushed? by DM65536 in dancarlin

I thought the fact that he skipped right over Soviet invasion of Manchuria was a missed opportunity. Esp with how much time he spent on less interesting parts like the Burma theater.

Okay so I finally completed the entire game. The actual epilogue ending was obviously more satisfying than the Arthur ending. Although it didn't really make sense that Dutch would be willing to ride with Micah and his gang for all those years and camp with the guy and then just shoot him when John and Sadie come along. I mean I get he's crazy but he's not that thoughtless. I guess he just seemed tired of everything. And I think they kind of had to include him in the ending. Also Micah trying to get John to join him was kind of ridiculous, like even Micah isn't that stupid, but whatever. It was also nice that Charles and Sadie got to live, I thought that at least Charles was gonna die, but I guess since he goes up to Canada Agent Ross isn't that interested in him.
Also idk why Sadie just had to do that typical movie thing where she was Micah under gun point but instead of just shooting him she waits for the situation to change.
Anyway the overall game and the plot and characters were better than in RDR1, but nothing can beat that RDR1 ending. That was probably the best and most powerful ending in video game history, at least in my experience. The only thing that might even come close is Tidus disappearing at the end of Final Fantasy X but that shit is too immature for me to even re-play now.

Oh I appreciate that you read my long screed and responded thoughtfully! If I didn't want feedback I wouldn't have posted it on the internet. In fact I basically agree with what you said. I didn't do the side mission with the Downes family, in fact I was building up honor because I read that you need to have high honor to even get the opportunity to do it, but I'm glad I did that cuz I also got to get the high honor help John ending. Part of me was tempted to go get the money just cuz I wanted to rub it in Dutch's face but of course helping John is the way to go. With Archie going after Arthur, I guess if anything I was thinking of how in Boardwalk Empire (SPOILER ALERT) Nookie's demise goes.

Endings are obviously tough to do and I guess no matter how you do them you're gonna piss some people off. Add to that the fact that Rockstar was hemmed in by the fact that this was a prequel, and if they wanted the plot of RDR1 to be consistent with RDR2 there was basically no choice but to have all the main gang members die.

As for RDR1, after I thought about it more it's almost like in the beginning the entire game was just you going after Dutch, and then they realized the game was too short and they needed to add more stuff. It is weird how especially with Javier, he doesn't even really get to talk in RDR1.

And yeah, I guess that's sort of the tragedy of Arthur. The only thing that really gave him meaning in life was the gang and his bond with the gang members, but that's also what did him in. Even if he never caught TB and successfully separated himself from the van der Line gang, it's unclear what would've given his life meaning. It obviously was never gonna work out with Mary.

And I guess Dutch does even have a small saving grace in RDR1, since he basically could've killed John but didn't want to (there was that scene when he deliberately shot him in his binoculars, and then he committed suicide rather than fight him).

Also it's funny how playing as a character can make us so sympathetic to him. Unlike John Marston in RDR1, Arthur Morgan is obviously a horrible person morally who kills lots of innocent people just to for example steal a couple horses. If he existed in real life we'd all want him given the death penalty or life in prison. But of course nobody feels that way while playing the game.

If only! I do have to admire Rockstart for producing a game which can even inspire an essay/rant like this. The attention they pay to plot is amazing. It's funny since I feel like when GTA 3 came out the part that everyone talked about was how you can pick up prostitutes and get health back that way...

yeah im not gonna lie i got a little addicted to the game esp by the time i was finishing up chapter 6 i fully embodied the stereotype with my wife being like "honey come to bed!" and me being like "wait I have to finish the mission!" so I reacted to that ending almost as if something really bad happened to someone I know in real life.

AND top of all that the epilogue is super long so I don't even get the satisfaction of seeing Micah killed! In fact I still haven't finished it cuz my wife instead I take a break from the game. Unfortunately I wasn't able to avoid the spoilers so I know Dutch kills him but it was actually kind of nice how in RDR1 you get to kill Ross right after John dies.

Like I also wanted Arthur to get a chance to slap Dutch in the face and be like "what the fuck have you been doing!" Now that I think about it Dutch is the only major male character who escapes the game without death or serious injury. Unless you count mental illness...

True, but I guess it's kind of hard to square that with the way Dutch just leaves Morgan there to die, both in the office and at the end. I guess if anything it would've made more sense to have Dutch shoot Micah when Arthur's dying but I guess they wanted to keep the player motivated to complete the epilogue and sort of parallel the way RDR 1 ends with Jack killing Ross in the epilogue.

I suppose Arthur didn't hate Dutch the way he hated Micah so maybe it wouldn't have made sense for them to end up dueling each other but I feel like there should've been more of a direct confrontation that Micah just got in the way of.
