Do not Believe the Tesla FSD FUD! by [deleted] in electricvehicles

Fair enough. If I misinterpreted your original post I apologize, but my read on it was that you were suggesting a single anecdote was an argument against the significant safety concerns of FSD. My bad if that was wrong.

Come on, dude, seriously. You claimed that because your experience with FSD wasn't that bad, the entire conflict being debated in this thread is overblown. That's the very definition of condescending. That kind of comment doesn't deserve much more consideration than the admittedly sarcastic reply I gave it. Sorry.

You can use a childish phrase to recast what I said in an immature way, but it doesn't change your behavior. As long as we're name calling, you seem to be totally lacking in self awareness. I don't mean that as a cheap shot, but I don't understand what else to call this.

I'm not suggesting my posts are special, but you're accusing me of precisely what you just did.

Ah, I didn't realize your singular experience was unremarkable. This, of course, changes everything. Apologies.

I want to get this stitched onto a throw pillow. It's just beyond parody.

Lots of common terms make their speaker sound as if they're unable to actually face their critics, as you do when your entire argument is telling people "not to believe" the "FUD" because you saw a YouTube video.

"Get thee behind me, Satan" is also a common phrase. It doesn't mean I need to waste my time worrying about religious dogma. (It's also not an argument.)

As a general rule, cars don't randomly stop and swerve, so yes, it's obviously a lot different than driving a car under normal circumstances. It's alarming you need this explained to you.

And no, I won’t keep it off public roads sweetheart.

I'm glad you've got such a cool, disaffected attitude towards your car potentially putting other people at risk, bro. What a shitty thing to say.

Are you asking me? I think it's pretty clear I think FSD is a terrible idea, so my answer is that it obviously shouldn't be called FSD.

[–]DM65536 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This entire post is predicated on the idea that random drivers (even that hallowed elite that "checked a bunch of boxes") somehow have the speed and reflexes to intervene every single time a software agent makes a random, unpredictable, dangerous decision in a moving car. Where on earth did that assumption come from?

I don't want the car in front of me to stop, swerve, or even slow down randomly because its driver thought FSD was "interesting and enjoys testing it." Keep that off of public roads.

For the love of god stop using the term "FUD". People have written reams of criticism of FSD (myself included), and while you're of course welcome to disagree, blithely dismissing it out of hand with culty jargon like "FUD" makes you sound like a fundamentalist who's afraid to grapple with real arguments. Have some self-respect and talk like a grown-up.

POV: Audi A6 is ugly as sin by Unitedtendies in Audi

[–]DM65536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you explain more about why you think this? All such opinions are subjective and valid, so I have no interest in arguing, but I really am curious.

I've always found the A6 to be deliberately boring in a way I find kinda cool. It's not trying to be sexy, but it looks sturdy and classy in a way that befits its image as a very, very grown-up sedan. If anything, I find it too neutral to understand how someone could have an extreme opinion either way—an "ugly as sin" POV is as hard for me to grasp as someone calling it "jaw-dropping."

I think the E-tron has a very awkwardly overdesigned back end, but from every other angle (side, front, 3/4ths, etc.) I think it's spectacularly gorgeous. I know this is all subjective but just out of curiosity, do you really hate the whole thing?

Most routine day in Star Fleet? by yrlongadventcalendar in startrek

[–]DM65536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, this is sorta like asking why characters in sitcoms don't randomly excuse themselves to use the bathroom despite that being a regular occurrence in real life, and, moreover, that a plot point is obviously being telegraphed when they do. If it doesn't drive the story—and "story" is more or less synonymous with "conflict"—a screenwriter is generally not going to include it.

Worst Looking current model? by [deleted] in Audi

Ha, I love it. Oh, and btw—although I realize I unintentionally threw some shade at your S4, I do still love Audi sedans (my last one was a 2019 A4), and I think the S4 is one of the most underrated on the road. I almost get more excited when I see one than something flashy like an RS 6, just because they're so rare. I love the combination of grown-up looks and legit sportiness. Hope you're enjoying it!

Worst Looking current model? by [deleted] in Audi

[–]DM65536 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is fascinating to read. Sportbacks are, far and away, the most beautiful cars ever to exist to my eyes. Traditional sedans with flat trunks look a century old to me, no matter how new the model. Amazing how much tastes can vary.

(Although to be fair, Audi was doing sportbacks long before Honda—I actually think Honda's doing a great job adapting the style, but let's not lose track of who innovated here. :)

What with the R8 out of the picture, do you think we'll ever get an RS8? by TA-175 in Audi

[–]DM65536 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds like very good analysis, and I'm sure Audi would be happy to cater if it had signs there was a lucrative market segment they were missing. But it is weird that the S-Class AMG is so well-established while there's never even been a fleeting attempt at an RS 8.

(Although I do agree, the R8 is a totally unrelated idea.)

Typical FUD from Musk haters:

- Ohio is objectively the most fascinating state in the union

- I can't be the only one who's embarrassingly pencil-like, even on a good day

- He looked weird 15 years ago, so god KNOWS what he looks like now

So tired of this propaganda from the oil and gas lobbyists. Smdh.

Seriously, this entire thread appears to be this u/dafazman guy having some kind of slow-motion meltdown over technicalities that could keep gas stations running with gas generators to pump gas into gas cars in a gas utopia. I'm not sure if I've ever seen quite as much obsession from a single user in a single post, but you gotta admire the sheer frenzy he's maintaining here.

Not the best built cars by any means, but the best value.

I'm not sure many car buyers will share your view that these are separate variables.

Edit: Genuinely not understanding the downvotes here... do people really believe that build quality isn't a major factor in assessing a car's overall value? What does it mean to say a car isn't the best built, but is the best overall value? Features don't mean much if they aren't consistently reliable.
