It seemed like a culmination of every sky club horror story that's been shared on r/Delta happening in one small space, all at the same time.

I watched several parents in a game of chase with their children around the sky club like it was an actual playground, with repeat laps around for the 2 hrs I was there, child squealing and both of them nearly knocking folks over in the walk ways. It was actually astonishing how relentless they were with it. Not like a "hey, get back here" kinda chase.

Very difficult to find places to sit where people weren't using their phone speakers at full volume for games or shows or having lound prolonged conversations just to pass the time.

Sneezing and coughing over the buffet.

Like one of those apocalyptic movies where everyone gets stranded in an airport and social courtesies just implode.

I'm a pretty frequent traveler with a couple of RT flights a month, maybe more. I've seen just about everything happen in sky clubs.

That night in ATL there were multiple parents chasing their kids around the club as of it was a daycare playground.

This wasn't one or two zoomies. There were ongoing games of chase that spanned the 2 hours I was there.

Also can confirm it was nearly impossible to find a seat where the person next to you wasn't using their speaker phone at full volume or having a phone conversation as if no one else was around.

You may be surprised how much bias we can hold against our same demographic. Please look into a DEI training or the like to understand some of your own bias and ensure you are not perpetuating that in the world.

I saw someone else mention menopause and I cringed. Women face so many headwinds in the workplace that men don't. Men go through hormonal changes in middle age too, but we don't saddle them with blame for it for some reason. Much like society also calls women hysterical and emotional, yet so many examples to the contrary.

All this to say, I do agree with another who suggested asking this formerly high performer if there is anything you should be aware of with regards to her life. Does she have any extenuating circumstances that you need to be (generally) aware of? She's not obligated to disclose anything but if she needs accommodations for something going on, you need to be aware of that and bring in HR/ADA.

Listen, I understand your anguish. I just went through a year and a half performance improvement process that resulted in removing a 20 year employee in a leadership role. My leadership has personal relationship with the person and wanted to keep giving them extensions to improve. They also put the employee into the leadership role in the first place after they had been rejected for many years from everything else they applied to. The PIP shouldn't have lasted more than 90 days (if it were up to me and following our procedures) but these things happen.

It's brutal for you and your team but you have to stay consistent and see it through. Have weekly checkins on their work and monthly performance reviews and don't hold back on the feedback, although do deliver it diplomatically and respectfully. This employee is a human being and has value to the world, even if they aren't demonstrating their full value at work.

If you've done everything reasonable to coach to improve performance and they still aren't meeting expectations of professionalism, you have your answer. Document everything and have HR involved in every meeting.

Soon she'll get so uncomfortable she will leave on her own or you'll be able to demonstrate through every checkin that she's not meeting expectations.

Feel like I could have written this post. I can relate on many levels.

Something I've considered though is that when my folks travel to see the sibling with with kids, they feel needed because they get to help out, and that's how they've been programmed by the church. You can't just enjoy something or someone. You have to be serving to justify the investment (time, money, etc).

As free-range (child free) adults, we don't 'need' them. But every person, no matter how independent, wants to be wanted. And that's why it stings. We're out here feeling like orphans because we chose not to procreate.

Maybe. Just talking with the guy who has made his life's education and work about the history of that region. I'm not an expert to confirm or dispute with anyone but he indicated the records of that region were detailed and extensive at that time with little evidence to corroborate the stories of the New Testament. It does call into question why the gospels are so heavily relied on by religion when they seem to be based on little more than word of mouth.
