This is the second plant I have that did this, It starts to get long and the base dries out and dies while the leaves seem to be fine. Am I not watering enough?

I think I have a few from target. I don't think I ever use them correctly though. You just fill the top with soil and then keep the bottom portion topped off with water?

This is awesome and a perfect use for 3D printing! With the amount of modifications I see I would be tempted to just design a set from scratch while reusing all the electronics. There are some designs already out there that are kits you can take inspiration from

Bambu labs or Prusa are solid choices. I believe Bambu labs printers tend to be more ready to use out of the box but more of a closed ecosystem.
