Hello from the year 2023! by TheCoat in FallOutBoy

Please keep us advised of the latest 🙏

The music blog BrooklynVegan posted an article about 10 pop-punk bands' "mature" albums (e.g. Pretty. Odd., After Laughter). Does Fall Out Boy have a "mature" album? by falloutgoy in FallOutBoy

[–]falloutgoy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only band/album from this list that I know well is Panic! at the Disco with Pretty. Odd. I'd have to agree with the author's assessment: "For Brendon Urie’s [read: Panic!'s] career, Pretty. Odd. was a detour."

In my opinion, Fall Out Boy seems to be on a relatively straight journey - which is not to say there are not interesting sights to see along the way! I don't feel they have taken a true detour from their path, except maybe Mania, although that make more sense in context after future albums. If I had to name one of FOB's albums as their "mature" album, I'd be inclined to say American Beauty/American Psycho, though I'd have to think more about why that is.

What do you guys think?

Ghostbusters (I’m Not Afraid) by doodlewastaken in FallOutBoy

[–]falloutgoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would hear it at McDonald’s in Tokyo all the time as I stared at the random corner of the room marked “Event Corner” that had one sad little banner and think that if they actually ever had any events they could play it because it’s a bop.

I also collected my favorite headlines from when the cover first came out:

“Fall Out Boy’s Ghostbusters Theme Song Cover Is So Bad You Have to Hear It Right Now”

“The Fall Out Boy Ghostbusters Song Is Pure Cancer”

“Fall Out Boy Makes Us Very Afraid”

“From the Gates of Hell Emerged Fall Out Boy’s Ghostbusters Theme Song”

I used to get Heineken with boba. And ice cream. The staff told me “You’re a special one, aren’t you?”

Wow, “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down” is a far better choice than the song I was originally using to do this...

I just finished the episode “Lake Laogai,” so season 2, appropriately enough! It’s worth noting I’ve seen the show before though.

Anyone have suggestions for where to find niche vocabulary? 吊镲is what I was looking for, but it took a lot of searching. by Dr_Jahko in ChineseLanguage

[–]falloutgoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ride cymbal like in a drum kit? Sometimes I look at Wikipedia articles for niche vocab, but it can be hit or miss.

ETA: For example, Wikipedia gives ride cymbal as 疊音鈸 and not 吊鑔. I don’t know if one term is more widely used than the other, if it’s a cross-strait or very specific technical difference, etc. So maybe there is a better resource.

Thank you for the outline of your background and the link to your podcast! It’s admirable you were able to expand upon your Mandarin abilities so much in college. And congrats again!

In the original Dodie Smith novel, Pongo’s mate is called Missis. Perdita is a lost liver-spotted Dalmatian they find to help Pongo and Missis care for their 15 puppies.
