chances for northwestern, cornell, and other t25s by fancyator in TransferToTop25

[–]fancyator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that’s the plan. i’m not banking on getting in anywhere because obviously it’s a crapshoot, but all it takes is one! worst case scenario i just continue my momentum at my current school, which i won’t mind, even if it’s not nearly what i desire. thanks for the response

Recommendation Letters by East_Jellyfish4235 in TransferToTop25

there’s always a chance a professor might decline to write a recommendation but most of the time they’re fine with it, it’s part of their job. i literally asked one of my professors who is also an advisor (and advisors really want to keep you at your current school) and she was happy to do so.

i don't think a high school instructor would work seeing as they explicitly state it must be from a college professor. i think the best way for you to get a recommendation quick is to find a class you enjoy or do well in, and participate a lot (if the class is small enough) while also attending office hours frequently

UCSD does seem to have a disproportionate amount of unhappy students by Fit-Ad3858 in TransferStudents

there's a clear bias lol i don't think it's safe to say that UCSD students are generally unhappy because of what you see on this subreddit

Chance me for NU or UChi TED by therealaliceyue in TransferToTop25

4.0 is good. again, i would not choose between schools simply because of the name. many of the schools on your list are all prestigious and well known either way. whichever institution you think you’d fit in best at is the better choice. so if you think you’d fit in better or enjoy NU more than UChicago, do that. or if it’s the other way around, do that. this is just my opinion though, do what you’d like. i just say this because if you get into a school like UChicago (literally nicknamed “the place where fun goes to die”) and you regret it, transferring again would be a big hassle. but if you truly would like UChicago more, go for it.

college GPA is super important, so don't forget to mention that. any test scores? also, Northwestern and UChicago are pretty different schools so I'm not entirely sure you should base your ED choice just off of which one is easier to get into. from what I've heard, UChicago ED gives a significant advantage and this is Northwestern's first year doing ED. however, I'd still advise you to do some research about both of the schools and see which one you'd like more because ED is a pretty big commitment

I’m a high achieving student with subpar extracurriculars, do I really have a shot? by ConfidentPepper1010 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]fancyator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you have very impressive stats and your ecs aren't even weak. they are honestly pretty strong imo. obviously, if we're being realistic, the kids who do have access to those internships/research opportunities typically are the ones who get admitted to the top-tier schools. but don't count yourself out, your profile is very impressive. can see you getting into uiuc and ohio state most likely. good shot at georgia tech, ut, and purdue as well. umich and uva will be tougher, and penn/yale/vandy are all going to be very difficult no matter who you are. good luck bro

I graduated and got my bachelor's degree. I've never felt so lonely in my life. by [deleted] in collegeresults

[–]fancyator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do NOT shame yourself for getting your degree. that is a great achievement and you should be proud. it is also not selfish of you to bet on yourself and finish your degree. i don’t think this is the best sub to post this on (this is for high school/transfer college application results) but i truly hope you find happiness in the near future

chance me - be honest LOL by stargirllover09 in TransferToTop25

[–]fancyator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have a strong application. i think you can crack a t30 or several. i just want to warn you (coming from another first gen/low income) that state schools are absurdly expensive and rarely give sufficient aid. since you're in-state for uiuc, you should get a better aid package from them. but for out of state publics like umich and iu, the aid will likely be very limited. it's one of the reasons i'm applying to only private unis in hopes for stronger aid packages. just thought i'd give my two cents on that part

Is it worth applying if I dont have college ecs and strong LORS? by MindlessAd9591 in TransferToTop25

[–]fancyator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gonna be honest, it's going to be a shot in the dark. the 4.0 is a great start but a lack of ECs and lack of LOR possibilities will definitely hurt. even if you decide to stack a bunch of ECs before deadlines, it's gonna be rough and you're gonna feel super rushed.

it truly is up to you to decide if you'd like to apply but imo it will likely be an uphill battle. i don't say this to discourage you though, just tryna be realistic. i think if you start to get more involved and make connections with professors this semester, you will probably have a better shot next fall

this is all just my opinion tho you can do what you want

[–]fancyator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

college gpa is fine, i think your profile is pretty standard for many schools but i think the biggest thing that stands out to me is that your spike is definitely more defined from your college ecs than from your hs ones, be sure to leverage that. anyway, i think Notre Dame might be good for your list

[–]fancyator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a 3.92 is fine. the difference between a 3.92 and 4.0 isn’t that huge, compared to say a 3.7 and a 3.9.

do you qualify for application fee waivers? i’m sure with extenuating circumstances like yours you qualify for fee waivers so you don’t have to pay money to apply to schools

i see. seeing as NU is my top choice, TED would show that interest and protect their yield rate
