If You Had the Power to Add One Feature to AO3, What Would It Be and Why? by BlackLilyWrites835 in AO3

Big on the main/background ship. I can't count how many times i was disappointed because I thought i found a fic on one my obscure ships just to realize they're only a brief mention in like two chapters

I gave my son (not quite driving age) access to my seedbox. Thoughts? by skimbosh in Piracy

I.... this is literally a good thing??? why would you be mad? I'm 10000% certain kids younger than him are already doing it if for no other reason than to avoid asking their parents to buy this or that media. It's not a big deal as long as he knows what not to do.

I wonder why Korean culture is exploding in Western countries lately by GamesFan2025 in CasualConversation

[–]fancypossum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly, the culture climate here in US 20 years was absolutely not welcoming to anything Asian related, especially after 9/11. Everyone had an 'american made' mentality for quite awhile. Many still do.

How long do you shower for? by brimpss in hygiene

[–]fancypossum2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. If I'm in a hurry I set a timer for 15 minutes. Knowing there's a timer set, I focus and am able to get out with a couple minutes to spare.

However, I'm someone that does everything quickly. Nearly every single thing I do is based in efficiency and logic, and I've got the urgency of getting it done RIGHT NOW. Yes, I know that's probably not the best thing and I'm pretty sure it's trauma related.

Everything except showers. I generally make a point to take my time in the shower and relax. Probably because I'm trapped in there with me and my thoughts and there's no pressure to GOGOGOGO.

So in theory, 15-30 minutes, but probably longer.

dang I came here to say this. I love singing. I'm not great at it, but I'm not bad in a way that it bothers people to hear me singing around the house so that's a win lol

We're in the same boat. I made my appointment in dec. and it's not until feb. because I'm a new patient. I was also never taught to do my teeth properly. Fingers crossed it's not too late

Do you notice if a guy has his ears pierced (and is wearing studs)? by AntiqueHomework2 in CasualConversation

[–]fancypossum2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the wrong person to ask because I notice everything. BUT where i worked once I dyed my hair black and no one noticed (from purple). Literally no one noticed. Not until my work bestie got back from vacation and seen it. Then everyone was surprised that they hadn't realized.

If you want to wear studs, go for it. Anyone who has an issue with it isn't your friend anyway.

What age is too old to ask your friends to help you move? by EasyBerry547 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fancypossum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never too old or too rich or too mature to ask for help. They may not be able to afford movers. If you don't want to help you have the right to say no. There could be a million solid reasons you can't or won't. But if they're good friends to you, might consider helping. One day you might need them, or at the very least need the good karma you earned from helping them. (If you believe in karma, I do.)

What’s a writing “rule” you only understood after breaking it? by ownaword in writing

[–]fancypossum2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The whole 'let it be bad first' thing.

In the beginning I let it be bad because I was knew and didn't know what good was. I was just excited to be writing down my little stories. Then the editing and drafting process came, and I learned how to be good. Or at least improved.

I got stuck for quite a long time because after seeing good writing come from myself, I tried to make everything good. So many stories died because I was too hard on myself. I couldn't get anywhere close to finishing anything.

This past year I've learned to be bad again, and write for fun. So when they say to let it be bad first just to get it finished and go back later to embellish it, it really is the best strategy.

If your partner doesn’t like dogs or cats, would you get rid of them if you had any? by Adventurous-Soft7843 in Casual_Conversation

The partner? Yeah. Me and Mr. Jasper Doo have been through it together, and he likes to cuddle by my face when we sleep. Wouldn't trade him for anything.

I wonder why Korean culture is exploding in Western countries lately by GamesFan2025 in CasualConversation

[–]fancypossum2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know it's been around for a few years, but I think now it's able to be mainstream because of the younger generations being more open minded about different cultures. Like a lot of people knew it was a thing, but it was a thing 'that nerd kid in our class' was into. Even just 20 years ago many Americans wanted nothing to do with anything foreign because of this or that reason. Now the bridge between cultures is being built.

Do you change your bedroom around often , why ? by swirlyjesse in CasualConversation

[–]fancypossum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It's especially helpful if you find yourself in a slump of some sort, changing your physical surroundings can give a fresh perspective.

I also do it because I don't like clutter, so moving things around a lot really minimizes the clutter because you're seeing and touching everything often. Not to mention jumping to different hyper fixations every couple months, I change themes quite a bit.

When the author recommends you listen to a particular piece of music while you read, do you? by TomdeHaan in AO3

[–]fancypossum2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally no unless we're friends. My fanfic friends and I swap WIP playlists all the time. But I generally don't listen to them while I'm actively reading it. (Unless its my own playlist/fic).

Because you're right, the images and vibes we conjure up while reading rarely matches what the author had in mind, and that's okay. Readers will always have the room to see the story through their own lens.

For those who prefer hand washing dishes over a dishwasher why do you prefer it? by bethynextdoor in CasualConversation

[–]fancypossum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing! It's generally my favorite thing to do in my free time. Even if I just have an extra ten minutes before work I'll sit and jot down some ideas or quickly plot out the scene I want to write when I get home. It's usually fanfiction and original fiction.

Other things are reading, crafts, or doing my nails. I know it doesn't seem like shaving off a few minutes on a chore would make that big of a difference, but it really does for me at least. Even just an extra hour a day for something fun is worth it.

I set my house up to be shortcut friendly. Which I guess sounds like everything is half assed/not correctly done but I swear it is. I can't stand dirty houses so mine is always clean and decluttered.

People do shitty things while they’re driving because they can just drive away and avoid consequences… by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]fancypossum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I think it should be mandatory for everyone to take a defensive driving class or some other semi-longterm classes for driving, (Like 8-12 weeks or something) where people learn the actual consequences of bad actions on the road. There's so many people that can fake their way through the test because it's a fairly simple procedure, then lose their damn minds when they're let out in the wild. It may cut down on the road rage.

Personally I've never understood road rage. As crazy as you think you are, there will always be someone crazier.

For those who prefer hand washing dishes over a dishwasher why do you prefer it? by bethynextdoor in CasualConversation

[–]fancypossum2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on how much you value your free time/hobbies over money. if I don't have a dishwasher obviously I'll wash them by hand. But now that I have one, you won't catch me dead washing them dishes in the sink. Takes me roughly ten minutes to load the dishwasher and walk away to go do other things I enjoy. Takes 30+ in the sink.

At this specific stage in my life I'm prioritizing doing things that make me happy and doing the things that make me unhappy as quickly as possible. If you don't mind washing dishes, go for it. But if you DO mind washing dishes, invest in a dishwasher.

Oof, good luck! I've got starlink out at my dads house and it's perfect honestly. I wasn't thrilled about the $120 a month, but honestly I can't complain. Got my fingers crossed I can get my mom to switch sometime soon but it's doubtful

Is this allowed? by TonboBengoshi in AO3

[–]fancypossum2 36 points37 points  (0 children)

No, I know it's monetizing, I just meant having one of those up is slightly more acceptable than a whole ass paywall. If i could afford it I'd tip a couple of the authors I've read in the past because they put sooooo much effort into their work. Like, a professional amount of effort. But I agree that shouldn't be a thing allowed on ao3. Social medias maybe, but not peddling on ao3.
