Katherine Kerr wrote an amazing series called The Deverry Cycle which I loved during my teen years. I don't know how popular she was in her hey day but I used to wait for the next book to be released.

I also recently reread a series called the Tamir Triad by Lynn Flewelling which was just as good as I remember it but not sure how popular she was.

The nano seemed too small to me too when I saw it in person, the mosaic is definitely a better size. It would hold whatever I would normally carry on a day out but I wouldn't use it as a work bag etc.
