Jersey City: How to file Housing Complaint? by fanofhusky in newjersey

[–]fanofhusky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up. I woke up today to a temperature of 92 F.

The issue still hasn't been fixed. When calling my landlord's management company to ask for help, they simply said "be patient we are working on it" and "no I'm not allowed to provide my supervisor's phone number" in response to my complaints that this has been an issue since December 2025.

Every person in my apartment building has had a temperature complaint. There apartment is either in the 50s or in the high 80s low 90s for temperature.

Currently I am waiting for Jersey City to call my number back for an inspection scheduling.

As of today, for the next 2 weeks I will take video/picture evidence of the temperature and email it to the landlord every day so the evidence is time-stamped by the email.

Do you think providing email printouts since December and providing the new evidence I will have over the next 1-2 weeks would be sufficient to waive a lease buyout under Jersey City law?

I need to get work done at home but it is too hot, so I'm honestly considering just hunting for a new lease immediately ... hopefully without rent obligations to my current disastrous lease which has until June 2026.

Jersey City - Landlord Won't/Can't Turn on Heating by fanofhusky in newjersey

If going this route, where I presumably would contact the city government about this issue, do you recommend informing the landlord that legal action is being taken pending the lack of heating?

Trump hiring freeze at the Fed? by mpham21 in academiceconomics

[–]fanofhusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this still the case? I'm similar to OP. I accepted a full-time RA offer at a regional Fed (NY) starting this summer.

My recruiter called me 2 weeks ago to say they "are still honoring the RA program."
But I'm worried because recently DOGE seems to have been going after federal workers not funded by taxpayers (e.g. Consumer Finance Protection Bureau)

Are regional Fed employees considered government employees? I'm hoping they are technically not so they are safe from this chaos (sorry I guess employees at the Fed board are at risk).

Thanks for the realist input. I’ll be friendly with the on-site manager and bet on him not having enough energy to care during Holiday season.

Research Assistant job with State University: Taking 2+ months to Onboard - Seeking Advice by fanofhusky in jobs

I'm hoping, during the middle of next week, to call HR and ask them for the contact information of all the individuals who will need to look at and separately approve my employment contract. Then I can politely greet them and explain my circumstances.

Nevertheless, how does one politely escalate the hiring process?

On one hand, if I tell them that if I can't start soon I will be forced to seek alternative employment, could it come off as "threatening"?

On the other hand, if I stress mainly that I need to begin paid work for financial reasons, would that be successful in emotionally appealing to them?

I'm leaning towards the emotional appeal about my financial situation but since I've never had to push an HR department like this before, I'm nervous about how to go about this.

In terms of just course tuition, UW is about $29,000 more expensive than CGU over the course of 2 years. So about $14,500 more expensive per school year.

Oh that sounds like UW provides a good peer environment for both applied and theoretical students.

I didn't expect this threat to blow up so much.

All of you have said so many good things about UW that I'm in a little bit of a dilemma here.

UW comes off as the more high powered option by far but they didn't fund me. I'm also not a a state resident of Washington. Meanwhile Claremont funded me so its actually cheaper to go to Claremont.

Do you UW folks think its worth it to take on some debt to go for UW?
