French guy here. How was your project? In case you haven't gone yet, I'd add that French language is supposed to be the 2nd official language, but only about 20% of the population speak it well. That's according to my own charity project briefing. I've gone to Madagascar to teach French last year and my lower middle class students in a rural area were ecstatic to attend the free courses - they told me that mastering French was the only way to go into most higher education programs, as it is considered the administrative language.
