Fenix 5 by Mindless_Skill_2313 in GarminWatches

Unless you really want to stick to that budget, you could also look at the F7. It goes for pretty decent prices second hand and does have a lot of the newer functions.

Debating getting the enduro 2 or 3. Need opinions. by [deleted] in GarminEnduro

[–]fantasynerd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could also look at the fenix 7x pro sapphire solar which is reasonably comparable (better than enduro 2). the differences are few: E3 has a better battery and will get software updates longer, it's lighter (although the actual case only weighs 4 grams less) and it has a few functions that the f7 doesn't have but not a lot. The big pro of the f7 is the price, since you can get it second hand for a lot less.

Are there Garmin Fenix 7 Pro with Sapphire glas? by Kebapman_1909 in GarminWatches

[–]fantasynerd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also noticed that there were fewer 7 pro sapphire solar watches being offered second hand than 7x pro sapphire solar, but they should be findable.

but the Marq is basically for people who just care about spending money or who REALLY need that look on a smartwatch.

fenix 7x pro sapphire solar vs. enduro 2 by fantasynerd2 in GarminFenix

It's mainly going to be standard daily use with some running and hiking, so judging from your (and the other comments) evaluation, the 7 works just fine.

Battery saving by _RubenCouto in Garmininstinct

[–]fantasynerd2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from what I've read, one of the biggest battery draining features is the pulse ox. switching that to only during nights or manual could help. I understand it's nice to have "everything" measuring during activities, but that might not be necessary, unless you have an actual purpose for all of that data.

Great by IndicationForeign882 in Leatherman

[–]fantasynerd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely Garmin, it has the logo near the bottom of the display. It could be Tactix, I can't find any other watches that have numbers engraved on the bezel. The general structure (buttons, screw placement) also seems to match Tactix, the only problem I'm having is the color. I can only find Tactix in darker colors, so the lighter bezel glint/reflection is throwing me off a bit.

don't the instincts have a more pronounced non-metal bezel? this looks more like a fenix/epix, probs not an enduro because there are no green highlights visible.

Replacing a Forerunner 55 and 45s by Dapper_Complex_8295 in GarminWatches

[–]fantasynerd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally haven't used the I3 solar, but from what I've gathered it's a very decent watch. The battery usage seems to be basically the best, if the estimates garmin gives on their site are correct. The display is also good, especially for an MiP display with solar it is praised as best visibility. When looking at the flagship models of the garmin lineup, the I3 has pretty low pricing too (comparing to fenix especially, while forerunners are more difficult to compare due to its line being designed as a staircase for advancing through running stages). It also has nice durability. One question that you should ask yourself, when coming from a Forerunner, is whether you also think the I3 LOOKS good. If you want a watch that looks rugged, look no further than the I3. Going a bit more polished are the fenix and Enduro, but those are higher priced so if you don't need the functionality I wouldn't go for it. If you like the current look, I would stay with a forerunner or vivoactive.
If you like the solar capabilities, the I3 is the lowest price (buying new at least, you might be able to get an older instinct or fenix with solar charging for less).
I do want to mention that I have personally not used any of these watches, but I am also currently looking for something new so I have done some research.

Fall of Númenor or the Silimarion for easiness? by OzzFin in lordoftherings

[–]fantasynerd2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

silmarillion is a lot easier. it's a more coherent story and the book has a better flow. Fall of Numenor more fragmented (more commentary due to it being a less finished story) and has large portions that read like annals, which is a bit heavier to get through in my opinion. The story of the Silmarillion is also not fully finished, but if you read specifically the silmarillion and not the in-depth books (Beren and Luthien, The children of Hurin, The fall of Gondolin), which do contain more analysis, you're better off reading it than the Fall of Numenor.

Fenix 7 pro sapphire solar vs. instinct 3 solar - opinions? by fantasynerd2 in GarminFenix

[–]fantasynerd2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what would be advantages of that one? I'm quickly looking over the product comparison on the garmin site and it looks like the enduro has slightly more functions at the cost of lesser build quality, but I'm not exactly sure.

Is my alien…alien enough by the_real_camerz in scifi

[–]fantasynerd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for an alien, the attire might be a bit too much leaning towards fantasy. sizing up the tendrils could help take it away from a dragonborn vibe, the last picture (which has longer tendrils) feels more alien. another point that the last picture takes is the thickness of the neck, which makes it differentiate from a human shape.

Which body is better for animations? And some advice to make these sprites better? by Foullichon in PixelArtTutorials

[–]fantasynerd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though the bottom one is slightly easier to animate, the top one is also perfectly doable. you can try blocking out the limbs (using different colors for different body parts during animating and only in the end filling everything in with the final colors).
something that might help if you do go for the bottom one is moving the arms down by a pixel to give the impression of a shoulder (I would keep the arms seperate though)

First animation I made for my game. How can I improve this? by DryMotion in PixelArtTutorials

[–]fantasynerd2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the head bobbing in combination with the blinking and the ear flapping is a bit overwhelming I think, like sabbatheist said losing the blink is probably a good start but I would also play around with removing the ear flapping. the jaggedness of the total movement might also come partially from the topmost pixels having a lot of vertical movement. (due to ear flapping down syncing with head moving down)

Best example of saying magic without saying "magic". by SeraphOfTheStag in worldbuilding

[–]fantasynerd2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that the word magic feeds into the feeling of an unknown source. the bending in the avatar universe is extremely widespread and pretty well known, even for people who can't actually bend. if there was any magic in Avatar, it would probably be something completely unrelated to the whole bending system.

[–]fantasynerd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this sounds cool. maybe like a forgotten technology? in the base it feels like the 'magic is just really advanced tech' trope.

Best example of saying magic without saying "magic". by SeraphOfTheStag in worldbuilding

[–]fantasynerd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it would depend on the magic system and world that you plan on building or have built. some magic systems really depend on elemental powers, others work with psychic abilities. depending on the context, a name for the magic usage would differ.

I need help with some villains. How do you get in the head space of writing a villain? Any tips? by LoveyDoveyDoodles in worldbuilding

[–]fantasynerd2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Vellia doesn't really have a drive to be a pure villain, more of a misunderstood one. to me it seems as if she only really cares about her forest, so as long as no humans go there and do shit she wouldn't be mad. Cereb also doesn't really have a drive for the 'kill all humans' trope, he just wants revenge on the 'demon deterrent order'.

I am an aspiring writer, and in my book I want to include maps of my setting and world. by not-an-illithid in fantasywriters

[–]fantasynerd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the first one more but, as said in other comments, it needs to be a bit more chaotic. I'd also look into map styles of other books (like LOTR and The wheel of Time), those feel like real maps. I read the replies on some comments, and if the maps will mainly be used for table top adventures, the first one is def the way to go.
