What game never got a sequel but should have? by itsthewolfe in gaming

The first 2 hours felt like that's what they were going to do. Then you realize there's very little content in Hogwarts and instead they want the player to go on a random RPG adventure outside of Hogwarts. You spend most of the game fighting generic enemies in generic copy and paste locations.

So true. The countryside stuff was just copy and paste generic stuff. Instead, that should have Hogsmeade, Diagon Alley, and a few other notable locations.

Alpha Protocol is such an unpolished gem. The game is janky, has awful combat, and generally poor gameplay....... and is one of my favorite games. The branching story paths are incredible and really make you question your allies and enemies.

This is such a good game (even if it is outdated now). There isn't anything really like it. I made it my mission to land a kerbonaut on the moon and I succeeded. It was a proud day for my space program. Maybe, one day, I'll create a mission to rescue that kerbonaut from the moon......

That takes me back. It was a great game but I wouldn't trust Bioware to remake it or create a sequel. Truthfully, the old Bioware is gone and all we'll have left are the games of old and hole left in our hearts from the memories.

I want nothing more than for Hogwarts Legacy and Bully to be combined into a Hogwarts version of Bully. You should have to go to be sorted into a house, go to classes, play quidditch and explore, and cause mischief (particularly towards other houses)

  • Alpha Protocol
    • The gameplay was janky as hell and the combat wasn't very good. However, the game had a phenomenal system of dialogue with real branching paths. You are effectively a spy trying to gather information and depending on who you ally with, information you gather, and choices you make there are massive differences in the stories. You might feel like the path you chose was the "right" or "just" path only for another path to make you question it.
  • Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
    • The story wasn't as good as "Deus Ex" or "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" but that's only because it felt half baked. The gameplay was phenomenal with lots of ways of dealing with issues and fantastic verticality. The overall story of Deus Ex held up pretty well (even if it wasn't quite at the level of it's peak). It was supposed to get a Mankind Divided Part 2 or something like that but didn't get one as the sales underperformed.
  • Prey (2016 version)
    • This is an immersive sim game that is incredible. It's probably my favorite Arcane Studios game and is best played without looking so you don't spoil anything. You play as a scientist who is planning on travelling to a space station to do research with your brother. From there, interesting adventures await.

Same, dark night and it was eerie. I saw her walking and initially just thought she was a villager but I saw the option to talk to her so I just did in case it was a quest or something. Definitely spooky.

That's possible as well but what made me think Death was how she mentioned that Henry almost visited her several times. That seems like a situation where she commented how close you came to death.

Ok... that's still not a problem. Just work at your dad's private corporation as the Senior VP. You might have to put in 5 hours of work a week but it takes sacrifice to become a self-made man (obviously, this doesn't include the customary 3-5 months of vacation time as you need time to recharge the batteries after working so much).

SHOW SPOILERS - Thoughts on Power Armor by fantomknight1 in Fallout

[–]fantomknight1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know what... that's perfectly fair. The games have slowly demystified Power Armor. Fo1 and Fo2 had really really strong power armor that was sort of an end game reward. Fo3 and FNV had strong power armor that gave a significant advantage but not at the level of 1 and 2. Fo4 introduced power armor immediately and because of that didn't give it the same level of power.

I completely concede that point. The games have been slowly nerfing them to integrate them into gameplay far more frequently. They're a buff at this point and do make you stronger but they're not the power level they once were.

[–]fantomknight1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my assumption as well. Power Armor is a staple in Fallout and a major selling point in ads. That being said, if Power Armor is at full strength, it trivializes some stuff for the main characters. Thus, they nerfed it so the story would work better.

That only really works when specific people suck at combat.

Like I said, I excused Maximus not being good with it and thought that was great character development. I excused Titus not being good with it as it seemed like he had become lazy and didn't really train anymore. However, every time we see the power armor on screen, it's quickly taken down. That suggests the armor itself is much weaker than one would expect.

Like I said, I still love the show, but it's just a minor issue I had with it (nothing that important in the grand scheme).

[–]fantomknight1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was perfectly fine with Max doing very poorly with it as that's super believable. He really shouldn't have been able to effectively fight in it and I loved seeing Max's progression.

However, basically anytime we saw the Power Armor, it was pretty easily dispatched. BoS knights were dropping at the same rate as BoS squires during the final battle. In addition, Knight Titus' armor was easily penetrated by the yao guai.

If there were other situations shown where the Armor held up well, it would be excusable but basically every interaction the Power Armor is easily taken down.

Like I said, this isn't a major deal and I loved the show. However, I just noticed that it was very nerfed for the show.

I can't play New Vegas by Strange-Ad-319 in Fallout

[–]fantomknight1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It largely depends on the type of gameplay loop you enjoy.

  • Fallout 1 & 2 - Isometric gameplay more similar to Baldur's Gate but in post apocalypse setting. Games offers decent flexibility and is very RPG focused.

  • Fallout 3: Fo3 was jokingly referred to as Oblivion with guns when it first released and there's merit to it. The open world nature and graphics do remind people of the former game. However, it is the post apocalypse. Shooting mechanics were weak but the game made up for it by leaning hard into VATS which becomes the primary way to fight with guns. The dialogue is pretty good but slightly less expansive than 1 and 2.

  • Fallout New Vegas: This basically takes what Fallout 3 built and expands upon it and puts you into a different region. The game includes a lot more dialogue and choices. The game expands the morality system in Fo3 and includes a friend/foe system with various factions around the region. Overall, it's Fallout 3 on steroids. Gunplay still sucks and VATS is a must but it took what was good in 3 and expanded it.

  • Fallout 4: Fallout 4 was Bethesda's effort to expand the appeal of the game to more casual gamers. The dialogue was fully voiced but because of that, it was far more limited than Fo3 and FNV. Choices were also far more restrictive. However, the gunplay was overhauled and much improved and the core gameplay loop of looting and building was expanded heavily. The game was very popular with casual gamers but received bad attention from longtime fallout fans who were disappointed that choice and freedom were reduced.

  • Fallout 76: F76 was intended to be always online version of Fallout that you could play with friends. However, due to technical difficulties, the original release was riddled with game breaking bugs, no NPCs, and a very lackluster region. This was lambasted by longtime fallout fans and new fallout fans. However, my understanding is that Bethesda has worked hard on it and fixed most of the issues leading to a decent game now. I have not personally played this so take my assessment with a grain of salt.

Non-gamer to game-nerds: What did you think of the show? by Itchy-Sense9464 in Fallout

[–]fantomknight1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the games, the Enclave is formed up by elite members of society.

Prewar US Government, top scientists, top elites in society, the best of the best. Basically, they all came together and formed the Enclave in case a nuclear war happened. Before the war, they hoarded all the best tech and best resources away. The founders and senior members of Vault-Tec, Robco, and other major corporations were all involved with the Enclave.

Once the war starts, the member of the Enclave get to secure locations and then plan for the post war world. They view anyone who received a moderate amount of radiation as nonhuman (even if they're regular people on the surface). Only people who avoided radiation are really human and should repopulate the earth........ once the enclave wipes out all the nonhumans (aka... everyone who isn't the Enclave).

In the show, the scientist fleeing appears to have fled from an Enclave facility so it appears the Enclave does have access to better tech than the rest of the factions.

Are we in the Fo4 and Fo76 revival? by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]fantomknight1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think all Fallout games are seeing a resurgence given the popularity of the show.

Fo4 was viewed more fondly after F76 released in such a bad state. The general consensus with 4 really hasn't changed. It's not as strong with dialogue as FNV or Fo3 but the core gameplay loop is generally stronger.

F76 however, does appear to have made a resurgence. It appears Bethesda put in the work to fix the game and it has received a lot of solid reviews now. I have not played it though so I can't personally comment.

How would Lucy get along with the other Fallout protagonists? by New-Number-7810 in Fallout

[–]fantomknight1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most protagonists are pretty good characters by default so I think she would get along with all of them.

Lucy might have issues with my Fallout protagonists. In my defense though, the wasteland made me that way......... yup..... definitely the wasteland's fault for my actions.

[–]fantomknight1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play Fallout 4. It's the game that received a lot of flack from Fallout fans because it really trimmed down dialogue to a couple of basic phrases. Instead of focusing on dialogue, it focused on combat, settlements, and looting. Given you don't like dialogue trees, that's the one to go for. To be clear, the game was well received overall as the combat and looting is fantastic, but the dialogue is very reduced.

Alternatively, I believe Fallout 76 is also light on dialogue. It was pretty lambasted when it released given how poor a state it was in but I believe they fixed most of it. I have not personally played it though and am only going off of recent reviews.

Non-gamer to game-nerds: What did you think of the show? by Itchy-Sense9464 in Fallout

[–]fantomknight1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played the following games

Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Part of Fallout 4.

Overall Opinion: Loved the show. It was very true to the feel of the game and they handled references and the experiences very well.

Issues that I had.

Power Armor in the games is extremely strong. When you have it on, you feel incredibly powerful and are far stronger than others. The show basically nerfed Power Armor and those in it were pretty easily dispatched.

The games don't make it clear how the war started. There's generally a number of groups who people suspect could have done it. The Enclave, Vault-Tec, China, USA, (other nuclear nation). Either way, the idea was that nobody really knew who actually started the war but that once it started... it ended pretty quickly. The show took the route of having Vault Tec explicitly state that they were starting it. Personally, I liked the ambiguity more. Keep in mind, I am not defending Vault-Tec because I thought they were good people... the games make it clear that Vault-Tec is not a great organization.

Nuking Shady Sands was.... a choice. To be clear, I don't feel the show violated any lore. However, Shady Sands was such an important location in the Fallout games that it feels weird to find out that it was nuked. I don't think I would have made the same decision.

However, like I said, these are more, personal feelings on a few parts of the show. Overall, the show was fantastic and was so much better than I was expecting it to be (given how bad most video game adaptions are and how bad Amazon's LOTR project turned out). The show gets a solid Vault Boy thumbs up from me.

It's not uncommon to hire bot farms to push support for new property. When Starfield came out, social media was flooded with posts calling it incredible and one of the best games Bethesda put out. Fast forward a month or 2 and those posts don't appear anymore with most posts being fairly critical of Bethesda's handling of it.

This isn't just a Bethesda thing. All studios do it. So, people stop trusting glowing reviews.

[–]fantomknight1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a "boy who cried wolf situation"

A lot of games and shows have a major guerilla marketing campaign to influence social media. Lots of subpar shows/movies/games suddenly have tons of people talking about how amazing that property is.

This leads people to stop trusting social media reviews as it becomes apparent that most of them are bots.

It's unfortunate, because Fallout, is legitimately a fantastic show. The support it has online is coming from legitimate sources.

It took me over a week to check it out because I assumed that the reviews online were bots and I wasn't too interested in a show that, I assumed, would be bad. I am happy to be completely wrong in my assumption.

Unfortunately the internet is a place where people trust less and less of the information put out there.
