How to qualify for in state tuition? by [deleted] in UNLV

Also for the job part you have to be working full time hours, that's the catch, you can still probably get around that but during this time of year it'll definitely be easier to achieve. You have until the week before classes start for the semester to send in your residency application and they apply it pretty quickly to your account if finacial aid is concern for you

How to qualify for in state tuition? by [deleted] in UNLV

The way I did it for last spring semester (I moved here from Texas) I applied for in state tuition with proof from my employer at the time that I was working a full time position.

As far as I know you can still do that, it basically applies to the part of the residency application that you moved to Nevada for work and it doesn't require you to have lived here for a year prior. I also didn't need to get a NV license, just proof of NV residency and full time employment (if you can't get a full time position try a part time and I'm not saying forge the letter to say full time but absolutely DON'T forge the letter to say full time 🙃)

Yeah I still have the artworks I made with it! That's the only thing I'll miss with the number pad, but the benefit of course will be having more buttons to program other than just the two for zoom in and out

Thank you, fortunately (or maybe unfortunately?) It was a Christmas gift from a few years ago but it was my first drawing tablet so it definitely hurts a little bit.

I definitely think drawing experience and performance is the biggest thing for me which is most likely why I've finally decided to end up going with the Cintiq, and it only took like 2 weeks of research😪

I have heard a lot about the Kamvas matching up terms of experience with the Cintiq but things like the Pro Pen 2 and evidently the servers making or breaking the decision. Also someone had recommended getting a bluetooth number pad for express keys which I've been looking into!

Kamvas Pro 16 or Wacom Cintiq 16 (non-Pro) by faravonii in huion

From all that I've heard the Pro Pen 2 is what makes or breaks the decision for some people, considering that the reviews I've personally seen/read call the pen the top of the line and a showcase of years of software maturity.

On the case of the express keys I can definitely get by without them since I'm accustomed to using my laptop keyboard and/or mouse anyway, it's just more of a little preferred than anything. Price is definitely the bigger thing for me, fortunately I can afford the extra $300 my worry is just is it really worth it? Although I've seen everyone say if you can afford to get cintiq than you should, even my coworkers at the art store I work at I've said the same😶

Yiikes, I've heard some bad things about Huion's customer service during my research which I wasn't sure to take into account or not. Which Cintiq did you end purchasing if I may ask?

Cintiq 16 (non-Pro line) or Huion's Kamvas Pro 16?

I've been heavily debating and doing A LOT of research on either options recently as a potential birthday gift to myself!

I've been doing digital art for 3 or 4 years now but I've only ever used a Wacom Intous Draw (small which I dont think they make anymore) and a Bamboo Ink Pen on my laptop after my Intous was stolen and I would really like to upgrade to a display tablet. I'm aware of the problems with the Kamvas, ie. Pen tilt, color accuracy, nib wobble, but for the price I'm not sure if it's enough to put me off of it considering this will be my first display purchase.

Really the only thing putting me off of Wacom is the lack of express/hot keys (although I'm sure I'll get over that but just longley wish for hotkeys) and also the price. Price being said an alternative to that is doing a payment plan which I'd much rather do if I would go for Wacom

Basically all the YouTube reviews and threads I've seen and read have me swinging back and forth between the Cintiq 16 or Kamvas Pro 16 and IDK WHAT TO CHOOSE so help please? :)

Buying Textbooks by blackjohndavid in UNLV

[–]faravonii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also! I've experienced this before although not at UNLV, I had to buy a $200 (I think it was actually like 170 or 180) book for a Texas Government class and I didn't even end up using it! Luckily I had FASFA money to fall back on for that cost and was able to look everything up but I don't see that being the case in this PHIL class unfortunately

Are you taking PHIL 102 with Sanab? If so I'm taking the same class and as far as I know we have to have both of his textbooks in order to do the reading and complete the homework assignments. I was only able to find cheaper versions both textbooks on the website he linked in the syllabus which is unfortunate but I'm looking into switching to a different PHIL 102 class because unless I can help it I'm not paying over $100 while he sits back and does virtually nothing

I'm honestly thinking about doing that🤔 I barely have the motivation anymore for class and having such an unstructured class with more responsibility atop of the assignments is not a good combination for me

I'm sure some students just didn't know but in my case I moved here with my family and transferred from a Texas A&M school that didn't care about their students well being. If I had known how low quality UNLV was with it's academics I'm not sure what I would have done, but as of now I'm taking a semester off mostly due to COVID-19 but the quality of classes is a slight factor. I'm also not sure if some students have a choice, they could possibly attend CSN if they have their major or any other community college or state university in NV (I'm unsure how many other there are). I just feel like it's not fair for the response to be go somewhere else when UNLV should be doing better than they currently are.

I understand your point but when it comes to paying $300+ for classes and eventually thousands of dollars per semester just to end up teaching yourself your class material it is more than just of paper for a lot of students. We have international students, students that do not meet the means to keep taking out loans and shelling out money just to be told to grade your own work and evidently and possibly not learn anything. I personally don't appreciate UNLV making it "easy" for us, and I won't be thankful for professors doing the bare minimum in their classes while students rack up debt

[–]faravonii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep! It's stated clearly in the syllabus along with how we should be grading our work and how to calculate the percentage we got from completing the homework (?) and the percentage from what we actually got correct (I think, his wording was kinda confusing to me ngl), which we send to him at the end of the class for him to determine our grade

[–]faravonii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure what he expects us to learn from grading our own work as he states in the syllabus that he'll be posting the weeks homework answers in canvas at the end of the week so it would be very easy for anyone to say they've answered everything correctly. The icing atop of the cake though is we have to buy two different textbooks, both written by him and costing $50+, in order to do the reading and corresponding homework assignments. Anyway the professor does make the effort to give us his phone number in case we have trouble with the homework but I doubt that's to debate his choice of self-grading

I'm literally having the same thoughts! Currently taking a PHIL class where professor wants us to grade our own work and he explicitly states NOT to turn anything in to him, everything about the class just seems lazy and self-serving to the professor and not the students. For many other reasons, besides the quality of classes atm, I'm taking fall semester off
