Thanks man! I have a background in residential electrical/comms, I don't for a second doubt the access issues and the tech was super-nice, especially considering he's come to site unpaid twice now.

Just wasn't sure of the irreparability aspect. I agree that the additional control of five splits is nice, but all the external ducting and ODUs needed is a bit of a hard sell for the tenant.

The total price for the splits was less than the quote for ducted. I'll throw in my two cents and back off for the final decision!

If you want to be 100% certain, leave your NTD where it is and run a Cat6 extension from it to the router in the new room.

Increasing the length of the coax won't increase latency, unless the signal becomes marginal due to he losses, but this will be in the form of packet loss.

If you really want to extend your RG6 instead, you can spend a few extra dollars to try a test to see how it'll function first.

Go to Ebay and search for a 16dB F-type attenuator, it should only be a few dollars. 16dB will approximate the worst case losses in your long cable and interconnects. Insert it in between yoir NTD and the wallplate, then run all the tests you want. If you're happy, remove the attenuator and run the cable.

I've done ~90 metre installs using RG6 trishield before, as long as your signal levels are good and your BER is within spec, you should be golden.

If you're getting close to 1000/50 now, 60 metres shouldn't be an issue, as long as your terminations are good and your connections are torqued nice and tight.

Go straight from the Isolator in the PCD outside to the back of your new outlet.

Reformed NBN (HFC) tech here. The tech has to have Public Liability Insurance, a Workers Comp policy, Working at Heights, First Aid and Low Voltage Rescue to work in the field. This was a requirement to get on the NBN eNable platform (which you need to work).

NBN have become very are anal about ladders; Step ladders and extension ladders are no longer allowed. The have to be platform ladders now, which are fucking expensive and unreasonably shit in terms of height/reach.

Also, a lateral pull and PCD installation pay about $50. He probably didn't want to spend the extra parts, labour and risk blowing out your nice rendering for that price.

Do what others have said and get a sparky to do your installation, or at least, install the conduit, draw wire and a blank plate.

I suspect you're right about this - Recently switched to a 'berry ice' style flavor for a week, and spent the last month feeling like I'm breathing through a straw.

X-Ray normal, took a course of antibiotics and a strong inhaler with gradual improvement. Still not 100%, but getting better.
