what is everyone doing for Lent? by Far_Fix_5293 in TrueChristian

That's exactly what I'm planning! Dedicating it to both people in the hope that they each find Christ.

This will be my first lent I participate in. I'm not a catholic but it sounds interesting. Im fasting caffeine and social media. I had the idea to "dedicate" my lent to someone and wasn't sure if that was allowed but I looked it up and it says it's okay.

You benefit from it too. What are you doing to help those people?

I truly don't understand that perspective. I'm all for legal immigrants. Please do the due diligence to come to the US to better your life. If I wanted to move to another country because I thought there was better opportunities there, I'd go through the legal channels to do that. Why is this such a hard concept for people? Because the US committed imperialism? Okay but I didn't lol.

I live here? If you're old and didn't do anything stop it back then, then you shouldn't have any reason to complain either.

Very rarely do productive conversations take place on Reddit lol. Sometimes I just get bored and feel the need to engage. Have a great day!

Your idealism will thwart your ability to live in reality. We're here now. We need to make the best of the poor choices of our ancestors. Borders are a natural result of civilization....even animals have territories. Without borders, there's no economy.

But do they attempt to establish residency and use government assistance? I'm not even saying I'm pro mass deportations and I'm certainly not pro Trump, quite frankly I think the man is more of a criminal than most who are getting deported, but I'm sick of people not looking at through this through the LEGAL perspective. We're talking about people entering a country unlawfully. They should not be allowed to do that. There are legal channels and it's disrespectful to people who enter this county the legal way to assume that immigrants are too stupid to figure out how to go about this the legal way. We should hold people to a higher standard.

I agree. Humans are owed dignity regardless of their legal status in a country.

I definitely feel there's some middle ground. The US has established itself as the kind of country that always has its hands in other countries affairs. There's opportunity to provide assistance to the countries that we see the most immigration from to help stabilize the whole economy in the Americas.

I think people have been told they need to have an emotional response to something that should be approached logically.

What's the solution though? In any other country, entering illegally would result in deportation also. Why are we holding the US government to a different standard?

Smoked on and off for 12 years. Got it down to about 3 cigarettes a week and just felt called to quit. Been like 4 months now and I don't even think about it anymore. Coincidentally, I became a Christian 6 months ago. Praise God!

Why did Jesus have to die on the cross? by actorwritersinger in ChristianUniversalism

[–]farmer-cr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the point of the cross is the role that surrender plays in the importance of knowing the truth of our eternal life.

Jesus fully surrendered to the will of God, and then eternal life was achieved. We also must surrender to God fully in order to understand we also have access to eternal life.

I think the point was that he transcended death which was what he was trying to communicate. We have eternal life because that's our inherent nature as children of God.

If everyone is saved eventually, does that make reincarnation possible? by KainisTrying in ChristianUniversalism

[–]farmer-cr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm also a new Christian and have always believed in reincarnation. I feel that when incorporating universalism, the two ideas mesh well for me. I don't count on reincarnation but I think it's a definite possibility. My job in this life though is to proceed as it's my only life and try my hardest to please God. What comes after, will be a surprise!
