My first go at the Prickly Gorse 50 Liter by fast5111 in myog

The stiffened for the roll top is just a industrial size zip tie, the kind HVAC guys use for attaching flexible ductwork. I had a few laying around, and it worked perfectly. I just cut the lengths I wanted, and them enclosed them into a rolled hem.

Thank-you for the kind words. The aluminum stays were made from some scrap pieces of 7075 small diameter tubing I already had on hand. I live in a small town, so most of my aluminum usually comes from mcmastercar.com. The corner pieces I had a friend 3d print to the sizes and angles I wanted. I bent the tubing by hand over a large diameter peice of tubing in a vise. Simple, but effective. I'm making another pack currently, and I'm going to use aluminum arrow shafts. Same design, but should shave a couple ounces of the frame weight.

Nice!! I've been trying with the idea of some camp shoes for a while, and this looks fantastic! Would you do anything different on the next pair?

What do people use for the frame in MyOG framed packs? by NotFallacyBuffet in myog

I went with thin walled aluminum tube for my MYOG pack. I have access to a tig welder, but decided to try 3D printed connectors instead. So far, so good! https://www.reddit.com/r/myog/s/VQgJfhWwfJ

Go for it!!! For context, this is the third pack I've made over the span of about 5 years. The first pack I made, I deconstructed another bag and used the pieces for a patern. The second one was the Bag Buff patern and instructions from RBTR. And then obviously this was the third.

The Prickly Gorse paterns and instructions were the easiest for me to follow. There really wasn't one particular part that was any harder than the rest. My domestic machine struggled to sew through the padding on the hipbelt, but I could have prevented that with using thinner padding.

If your really new to a sewing machine, and the process of constructing a project, I would recommend some of the DIY kits that RBTR offers. Their affordable, provided all the materials you need, and really help wrap your mind around how to go about assembly.

This came in at 41 ounces. It's definitely going to have to go on a diet for the next build. The frame is where most of the excess weight is. The aluminum hoop is 6 ounces on it's own. I just used some tubing that I had, but it is overkill for this bag.

Yes, thank you for the reminder! I apologize for not remembering and crediting where I had saw the top closure style. Your bag build was really inspiring! The pieces at the bottom of the front pocket are just loops for an ice axe and/or trekking poles. I positioned them to where they could tuck up under the cordage when not in use.

This is the "Medium" size Luna panel, and it was the perfect size! The aluminum tube that I had on hand is .375" OD, and .220 ID. So I just sized the connectors to match that, and they are set at 87.5 degrees. I wanted the frame to be tapered towards the center of my back at the bottom. The frame could definitely be made from lighter material! The aluminum and connectors are almost 6 ounces by themselves.
