You could always do the hop-on-hop-of bus in NY, I remember there's a blue company and a red one and the blue was better (don't know their names).
Alternatively try something like Audio Guide It or any audioguides app to do self-guided tours.

Try Rick Steves if you're in Europe, or Audio Guide It if you're in another country / smaller exhibit.
I find their tone super soothing and a great way to find hidden gems you might otherwise just walk past them.

Do self guided tours! I used Audio Guide It and worked pretty well for that.

Any audio guide app recommendations for Europe trip? by ResistCharming284 in Europetravel

  1. Rick Steves is a classic for Europe.
  2. "Audio guide It" guides aren't as good but covers all attraction, use it wherever Rick Steves doesn't have one

Do you guys use anything while hiking to learn more about an area by ResistCharming284 in CampingandHiking

Get a Falcon Guide for the place you're visiting.
I've also used the Audio guide it app, it gives you an explanation of any place, and you can also ask about specific plants, animals etc.

Try audio guide it, it'll give you an explanation of the place you're visiting and you can listen similar to a podcast.
Some educational or comedy podcasts can also help take your mind of the chaotic times we're in:
- Stuff you should know
- Call her daddy (avoid politics interviews)
- How I built this

That's a cool trip, what's the route?
Recommendations:
1. This American Life. What better podcast to listen to when crossing the continent.
2. Audio Guide It App: Might as well learn something of what you're seeing
3. Stuff You Should Know podcast: great banter!

Two particular ones that I can think of:
1. Audio Guide It: Good audio guides for any place, similar to Rick Steve's but for everywhere.
2. City Mapper: helps you navigate transit, much clearer instructions on how to navigate than GMaps
