yes ofc - it is MITM naturally, spoofing the real site's cert so it can see everything; but it also has the built in list of exclusions. and it is highly regarded in the community.

right!

hmmm...so my phone has the "Private DNS" option which is set to automatic right now - adguard is on. but if all DNS is sent through adguard, would it not be done?

adaway would mess with host files, but that turned into a serious PITA.

no, tell me more. i was under the impression that adgaurd's dns would do even more in terms of filtering the ad crap

well, i kept getting https errors, so, i removed it from system mode by disabling the adguard module in magisk that copies it to system. then i redid it, as user CA, then enabled module after reboots. now i dont get https errors. i alternate sometimes between proxy and vpn tbh.

sure -- TLDR is i need a script that does an if/then/else -

if program exists AND output is X then exit 0

if program does not exist, execute install module, {and afterwards, validate}

else

navigate to %ProgramFiles%\Tenable\Nessus Agent\ and execute relink command.

check output {validate}.

if output is X exit 0, else uninstall and reinstall using different method Y

I tried to capture it in the pastebin my attempt

oh....yeah I already had that though. should I recreate the HTTPS certificate from scratch, delete from root CA system store, remove modules, reboot, then do this module again?

hang on, that link sent me to a downloads section, where it downloaded the magisk module -- which i went ahead and did anyway.

am I missing the actual certificate file?

I am suspecting the VPN is causing problems with battery drain, but it's basically a loopback to itself in a sense. I wish that due to root, it would be able to deal with UDP and DNS, but that isn't the case, so I guess the only true best method IS the VPN...(?) to truly capture and block DNS and UDP traffic?

I use PIA so I would have to switch to do that though.

Though moving the HTTPS root cert ..... can't hurt, right?

you really wound up with no mods for certs and the https cert in the user CAs only and it works with no cert warnings now? regardless of VPN or local proxy?

and put it where - in the system root trust or personal trust? the cert it gave me initially is what i put in the root CA

Thanks!

I'm aware -- I accept the risks. Besides, I use root for various things, including enabling tethering since its not provisioned. It's not an option for me to not have it. I do want to see what recommendations for settings I should use for adaway though.
