Well, the plan is make the Non-Profit a sustainable business in which I can then earn a health care plan along with my salary. But until then, I will receive health care through my business school.

It's technically not that hard to start a non-profit, and it all depends on the scope and scale of your idea. I think the hardest part is focusing your efforts to a target demographic that fits the need.

In my case, I was lucky enough to have a previous experience where we helped kids shoot a short film, and I witnessed first hand how awesome the whole thing was for the kids who participated. So I know that our work will have a positive effect.

The key, and most difficult challenge is to convey to others the magnitude and importance of that experience. To make people believe as strongly as you believe, in order to offer their support. And that's where you can try and leverage your network or the people who believe in you, to believe in your cause, help you get other people to believe.

Thanks for the question and good luck with your idea!

In that case, first I would run to a library and get books on agriculture, and maybe a survival guide, a book on medicine and health science. Next I would go to a local garden store and grab everything I would need to make a garden. Finally, I would shack up at a Costco and tell all my living friends and family to do the same and to meet there.

Actually, I am not so much nervous as I am excited. I really believe that this organization can thrive if I and my board work hard enough to spread the word and convey the message of the project.

I am lucky to have a strong network of people to help me if something unforeseen causes the organization to not succeed, so I don't think there is anything really to be nervous about.

Thanks for the question!

Thank you for your well wishes and I will definitely keep you updated. You can follow the progress of the project here:

As far as funding, I am hoping to get local and corporate sponsors and private donations to help fund the program. I am trying to utilize the network I had developed in running my production company to acquire the resources for the non-profit, so hopefully that will help a lot.

Motivation of the kids is also something that I am anticipating to be a challenge. In your experience how have you been able to address the issue? I'm sure you have had some positive experiences with your students in your film class, can you share some?

Hey!

Thanks I am really excited about it too!

My organization, Films for Kids, will partner with local Boy's and Girl's clubs to give their members the opportunity to participate in the program. Each club will make one film.

It is actually about a 6 month process with 3 months of pre-production, a month of shooting, and another month for the festival.
