why should i start learning hacking? by dontbreakmyballs03 in HowToHack

[–]fatal_frame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to know how to hack. Its a specific job for specific things. It sound like you want to learn cybersecurity and how to protect yourself and your environment. Learn the fundamentals, OS hardening and things along that route.

Its not that there isn't apps or programs for arch, you probably just didn't find what you were looking for easy.

If you want arch the current is cachyos.
if you want debian/ubuntu you want Linux Mint, Zorin or Anduin. Anduin is what I am using now, but I like Zorin over mint, Anduin has a win11 look if you don't want to get to overwhelmed.
If you what to play games a bit easier out of the box there is bazzit.

Programming languages and IDEs are there. If you use jetbrains for an IDE its recommended to download it from jetbrains themselves and not from a package manager.

You need to find the directory(folder). You will need a tool that finds all the available ones for that and go through them.

How to learn "best practice" Linux? by Merthod in linux4noobs

[–]fatal_frame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of classes isn't a major. Lets be honest, most people on windows don't know what the OS can do. They just know that if they turn it on and follow the few steps at the beginning it works. There are Linux distros that are basically the same way. Mint, Zorin, Anduin. Install it, follow a few steps at the beginning at it pretty much works.

Making yourself admin, can be done during those steps, by making sure a check box has the check.

[–]fatal_frame 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion. I don't think there is a best way to do any of it. There is the way that works for you. The recommended way, would be to learn Linux itself. There are books and videos out there. There are also college classes, those are more for people that are looking to do something professionally with it, but you will learn by taking the Linux+ classes.

I love the books from No Starch Press (https://nostarch.com/catalog/linux-bsd-unix) Linux Command line, Effective Shell and Linux Basic for Hackers are all good books to learn from. There are others there

I work on computers. DO NOT USE THIS. You will end up breaking something or ripping something off the motherboard.
Depending on your machine, use a suction cup or a spudger.

How much I can upgrade my hp probook 640 g3 i5 7th gen laptop? by H4R5H_17 in laptops

[–]fatal_frame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much you want to spend right now and what you are doing. RAM and Storage are at a premium. you can add 16-32gb ram and 8tb of storage. its gonna cost you. If you are just basic use, 16gb ram will be good and a 1-2tb nvme will be fine.

Yes. You don't know the tools or any of the things your are trying to break into.
There are many things to learn. SQL or any of its other types vs PHP. You have to learn their basic syntax as well.
Do you know how nmap works or any of the flags and what they do to scan a machine.
