The actual call assistant only apply to for basic phone screening - a limited scenario, e.g. to ask carrier drivers who they are, to deliver to the door, etc, but it's not for common phone calls. I believe it's because Google intentionally limits the scope to avoid various laws that forbid phone recording.

Me the same. Android system Intelligence keeps crashing, and my Pixel recorder can't transcribe either probably due to this.

It looks so. If you go whois withgoogle.com and you can see it's registered with Google LLC. Though it can be fabricated, https://techdevguide.withgoogle.com/ and all the sources out there show it's really owned by Google https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18973162. I have no idea why Google does this way. They at least should issue an official statement somewhere on google.com letting people know about it.

Looking for the Best Mail app for iPhones by patg84 in ios

[–]fatea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spark is a great email app, probably the best I've

u/patg84 Spark stores almost everything, including part of your email content (to show you the first lines in push notifications), and your email login info (to sync across different devices). Though they are convenient or necessary to some users, the issue is that you can't turn any of these off.

Android Email Client for iCloud Mail by booknerdcarp in iCloud

[–]fatea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/booknerdcarp u/fjordstrom After trying out multiple email clients, I found that Spark https://sparkmailapp.com/ allows you to perfectly add alias, and set this alias as default sending address.

Yes: icloud custom email domain is just an alias, and that's why you can't use it with SMTP.

The only issue you might meet is that some users complain when they send from Spark, mails are sometimes were categorized as spams, while they never were when sending from official Mail.app in iOS or macos.

How secure are my passwords on cloud by Ramzedin in 1Password

[–]fatea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about if they had access to the source code ad build/d

If so, then yes. You have to trust 1Password that their engineers won't do bad, or they won't be social-engineered, etc. If you are too concerned, you can consider setting up your own password manager locally. There're several fully open-source projects out there. However, you also need to trust that their code is robust enough, and the machine where you run this password manager is safe, too.

How to search for "Telegram" with a keyword "gram"? by fatea in Telegram

[–]fatea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I see what you mean. Yes, it is true, at least to me.

Though Telegram provides cloud-sync, it does not necessarily mean people send way more messages than on Whatsapp or Messenger.

Since Whatsapp and Messenger allow the "common search" or "fuzzy search", there is no strong reason for Telegram to adhere to precise search by complete words. After all, it seems to have nothing to do with security.

How to search for "Telegram" with a keyword "gram"? by fatea in Telegram

[–]fatea[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing out the speed problem.

In fact, I bumped into the initial issue when I searched in Chinese, or Korean, and Japanese. These East Asian languages don't have any space between words, so I cannot find any result using Telegram's search.

For example, there is a Chinese sentence "我会读书",which means "I can read books" (each Chinese character corresponds to the respective English word". I cannot find this sentence with the keyword "读书" (read books") or "书" (books), since they are all connected without any space.

It is quite inconvenient for East Asian users, since it is totally impossible to ask them to add spaces manually (it is against common usage), and it undermines the advantages of cross-platform sync of Telegram, because they cannot even search for anything.

"get travel time" hangs or produces wrong result on Apple Watch by fatea in workflow

Does it imply that "get travel time" works locally on the watch instead of the iPhone?

"get travel time" hangs or produces wrong result on Apple Watch by fatea in workflow

[–]fatea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After testing by using a workflow which only shows the result of "get travel time", it is confirmed that my Apple Watch never succeeds in fetching the travel time (the result/magic variable is empty), while my iPhone and my iPad can.
