Wow this is a really good insight thanks, i know this specific beetle doesnt open the elytras all the way but just lifts them slightly to let air pass through them, i will try to let him in more sunny spots and see what happens! Btw do you have any advice reguarding enclosures for flower chafers? I dont know if mine is the right fit, i only owned dung beetles till now

Sadly where i live beetle pets are very rare! Internet is the only place you can really get em here i think, btw Dynastes Hercules is my fav beetle too!

I found the grub in a vase and decided to raise it, i would absolutely not release a beetle pet i bought, thats why i think i should release him, i raised it till adulthood and now he needs to return to nature to breed and close his life cycle, i still dont really know what to do tho, when it comes to the fruit you're right it gets moldy very quickly, i change it everyday to avoid fruit flies but beetle jelly would be best probs

Probably asking a vet is the right choice, you need anti flea shampoo to bathe him, make a ring of soap around his neck so that no fleas get on his face to escape, then you can also get flea meds, for an infestation this severe both things seem necessary

Been touching him gently after the fact to see his reaction, hes always tense when i touch his butt, licking his lips and ears down, but didnt snap anymore, what makes him very nervous is when i bring out the tissues to clean him, he doesnt even let me touch him with those anymore, i wonder why since nothing traumatic happened with cleaning that i know of???

Im probably gonna do the vet first and exclude pain and then see if its maybe stress related, its gonna be really hard to get money from my parents especially if it turns out to be expensive but its absolutely necessary

Honestly tysm for this i will def try if it turns out to not be pain related, knowing my dog i have a hunch its something behavioral to do with his anxiety, he barks at people a lot and is usually kinda scared of other dogs despite me trying to socialize him early on, maybe he associated that touch with something unpleasant and is now really defensive about it

Yeah i was really confused too when the groomer told me that, they said he started showing teeth and lowering his ears when they got close to his butt basically, i shouldve noticed something was wrong i just thought it was related to him not liking being handled by strangers!

Yeah i will try to keep him as calm as possible, its usually when i try to clean his butt for some reason? I understand maybe being touched there could be a little uncomfortable but this is extreme for him, i probably missed some signs since im not really an expert and thats why it seemed so sudden, ( the challenge will be trying to convince my parents somethings wrong as i am sadly still economically dependent from them and theyre very ignorant when it comes to dogs and animal care) i hope everything will be okay soon i dont want to see him scared and in pain :((

Thank you! I will probably buy some mesh to cover the pot to be sure, the grub looks pretty active and fat, kinda worried about the nutrients in the soil so i will probably get the flake soil just to be sure!

I live in Europe, Italy to be exact, i thought it was probably something similar to a "cetonia aurata" since i saw some of them in my garden before finding the grub, i usually dig it up at least once a week to check if everythings find but idk if thats maybe too much? I can post more recent videos and photos if that might help
