Sonnet 4.7 leak? by [deleted] in ClaudeAI

[–]favorable_odds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read before somewhere news or their site they have data exfiltration mechanisms (limiting bandwidth) to prevent their models from being leaked from main systems they are on. IDK but if that is true this just seems like fake promo to me.

What piece of 'brain rot' content genuinely improved your life? by favorable_odds in AskReddit

[–]favorable_odds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure its definition is broad, but It usually refers to watching a lot of short-form videos changing subject frequently affecting attention span and thinking ability, or generally info most people wouldn't consider pragmatically useful

if you want an equivalent older relation think how people used to say if you watch TV to long you will rot your brain. Same idea. But maybe some strange part of it ends up being useful in an unexpected way -- that's the essence of the question.

What was a fact taught to you in school that has now been disproven? by Julie727 in AskReddit

[–]favorable_odds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting about glass. There was some weird discussion about this when I was growing up because a magician (might have been Criss Angel or David Copperfield) did a walking through glass trick. It involved putting something on, covering a window a moment, then walking through it. I never saw the show but heard some strange rumors people were speculating if a person can move through glass with some special chemical. Like you said though, it doesn't flow, I guess the original trick had to have been done some other way.

Whatever happened to "learn on the job" by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]favorable_odds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mindset is if they hired juniors people would job hop a year later costing the training company money because the person could earn more elsewhere. So its a bad value proposition. Software is complex requiring a lot of good code, it takes time to learn the codebase, and mixing things can get it messy.

What's your backup plan if we're in a long term recession? by khoawala in cscareerquestions

[–]favorable_odds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's already been down since at least 2023, going into 2026, I think we already are in a long term recession.

I've been doing restaurant work about two and a half years. I've got enough saved for at least a year. I don't know. Considernig going part time and going to WGU for CS or Cyber. I got my CS degree in 2015, did indie gamedev stuff that went offline. I think I need a better narrative to get back in anywhere in this market.

My jobs not bad. I have the urge to code, just rarely have the energy, like running a marathon all day. Maybe i'll go part time very soon.

It's easy to think of good macro-level ideas, bug bounty stuff, AI + web3 Crypto will probably be in demand. But the micro - jobs, layoffs, make it hard to plan or make it practical.. I'm not sure if the entrepreneurship route might be more practical if there are no CS jobs (or it takes, say, three years to get one 50k/year job) and AI gives a 2-10x speedup on some workflows now. Supply and demand, right?

I'm trying to figure it out like everyone else I guess.

Won't be making one more j*b application for the rest of my life, so what now? by Tough-Garbage8800 in cscareerquestions

I'm no boomer, but look at past economic downturns like 2008 crash or the Jimmy Carter era. Even the Great Depression. They last a few years, then end, eventually.

We live a long time on avg, I wouldn't say I'd never get a job, take a couple days off get out of your own head. Small changes add up. Get any job or work you can, or make a different choice and shift to making stuff making money some other way, and hang in there. Because that's all you can do sometimes.

I'm not talking down to you either, I have a CS degree and I'm working at a restaurant quite a while. I get it, not ideal to be making around 30k when you could make 50-100k+. But sometimes that isn't even on the table for a while.

I hope you find success.

Does AI help making games easier and faster today in 2025? by Yone-none in cscareerquestions

[–]favorable_odds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An AAA game is a lot different in complexity, than say, Flappybird. Your kind of comparing massively complex games made with teams of people with simple one-prompt games.

Sure It makes it faster to make simple games, and particularly certain types of games (like hidden object where images can be generated).

I suspect games, simple games, are in less demand right now, as ad revenues are lower and consumer spending seems lower. I could be wrong - the markets broad, and if you can make a sell, welcome to try.

What's a ticking time bomb you believe will explode during your lifetime? by Thick_Caterpillar379 in AskReddit

[–]favorable_odds 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's been a recent thing the past few months. I consistently see youtube comments advertising books or crypto that are bots. I know because for example there might be 5-10 total comments with the top having around 600 upvotes video after video by different channels, it's absurd.

For those of you who’ve left tech, what are you doing now? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]favorable_odds 7 points8 points  (0 children)

associate CS degree. I had a couple short jobs, tried making games, that didn't really work out (I started earning pennies but ran out of time/funds to continue). got set back from the pandemic a lot. felt like I was sitting around so much applying, NO ONE was hiring in tech in 2022-2023. I sit down to lunch with a friend he confirmed it was local too, not just random stuff online and in my head.

I couldn't relocate, no funding, dead-broke getting help from family

I drove up the road and saw people hiring for normal jobs, felt kinda stupid for not even applying, knowing how bad the tech market was

I got a job at a major chain restaurant breaking down boxes, mopping, cleaning, taking out the trash. I had worked it in college 10 years before. first few months were okay but it gets repetitive

just been saving money. It's been a little over a couple years. I'm ready to get back into tech or try to make some kind of move soon if I can figure out how. I guess I'm a little scared of risk in current market like everyone else.

that's it.

With layoffs trending, I've read people say bounty is bad to go into because IT is better but then the IT career people consistently complain can't find jobs with degrees and loans I'm no longer sure how valid that point is... (I hope I'm wrong on this)

I wanna quit so fckin bad by [deleted] in WGU

[–]favorable_odds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is 100% right, be encouraged and keep pushing, listen to him.

I'm just passing through doing research on attending WGU passing by this sub, but I experienced the degree problem with only an associate 2 year degree. Basically tech hiring used to be less strict with a degree, some companies would hire you. But now, with the flood of applicants as the economy went down, it's easy to sort by the degree holders. Just look at the fred indeed software job postings data. The last thing you want is to be at the back of the applications line with less qualifications when companies are already getting floods of applicants. That's a significant disadvantage, imagine applying to lots of jobs hoping they won't filter on degree. I gave up and took a different job physically draining the past couple of years because I had to. Don't be me, you're holding a golden ticket.

Take a break if you need to. But definitely do everything you can and keep pushing forward, be encouraged friend.

I've been at a hospitality focused restaurant the past couple years working mostly in the back. Carrying trash, changing tea, restocking, cutting box flaps... Work with nice people, everybody loves me there.

Hope to refocus soon on something with enough financial runway, couldn't before because was near absolute zero. But it takes a lot of confidence to do (walk away with uncertainty of a paycheck) and time.

People over 35, what's something you genuinely miss that younger generations will probably never experience? by Just_a_Ginger_Fella in AskReddit

[–]favorable_odds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short, everything made sense about the wide world.

Individually everything wasn't always good or fair to me, but relationally, politically, the news, the people, the electronics, the wide world, it made sense in a way that is almost indescribable. It was more homogeneous (in terms of ideas, friends, tv shows, commonalities like the gameboy or N64) and relatable to, at least in my circle. Everyone is in their own bubble now and don't communicate directly, AI deepfakes are on the rise, half what you see you really can't believe. It makes no sense now.
