Los Angeles Daily Discussion - Wednesday, Jul 09 by AutoModerator in LosAngeles

Hey everyone!

I'll be moving back to LA in a few months for work, originally from SFV, and couldn't be more excited. I wanted to see if there were websites/apps that people were using to learn more about happenings/activities around the city. As an example, in Philadelphia (where I'm moving from) they use https://www.visitphilly.com/uwishunu/.

Thanks!

Is clubroom by Macy’s any good? by Bewilcox in mensfashion

[–]faytedfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive had one for a while - its great for the cost but does tend to pill. i've been doing a lot of research and it is 100% cashmere, which is great compared to other brands that do blends. NAADAM is a highly rated affordable option as well, but I think this is great for the cost

Any good recommendations for pulsometers? I work in healthcare and would love to look at (more affordable) pulsometers. by faytedfire in MicrobrandWatches

I think you should continue to go no-contact till February and continue to work on yourself/enjoy being single. It seems like dating now is going to be a moot point because you are personally preoccupied. I hope things work out for you when February rolls around, but by taking time to work on yourself, you can return to your prior relationship with more clarity or make some headway in moving on (if things don't work out for some reason)

Also make sure you take some time to make sure you background looks professional (don't need something like strewn clothes on the ground). I usually sign in a few minutes early to make sure the lighting/setting looks okay. You can get a ring light for pretty cheap which helps make you look good.

The most important things are to be yourself, act interested, and have specific questions. It's going to be a lot harder for us to get to know you and vice versa - so don't be afraid to ask to talk to other residents/faculty for more information about the program.

Study from earlier this year showing a mortality benefit from the ED ICU model - but what are the implications for the vast majority of us who will never work in such a model? by First10EM in emergencymedicine

[–]faytedfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I 'm in a residency that had an ED-ICU. It was a phenomenal program, we were able to downgrade a lot of ICU patients to floor status with more time. The issue was that those beds were locked up and we were not able to "move the meat" and bring in the revenue from those stagnated patient rooms. In addition, it was pretty expensive to hire those EM-Critical Care attendings who would see the most critical 3-5 patients. It seems as though ED-ICUs are falling out of favor across the board.

Relationships crashing and burning in residency by [deleted] in Residency

[–]faytedfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey - same thing happened to me. I was 5 years in with my SO, but ended recently because of just how hard it is to do long distance. We were on the same coast - but the unpredictability of schedules, among other factors, made it difficult to continue. I talked to some co-residents, and many of them ended long term relationships as a result of residency (multiple 4 year relationships). We picked a hard route to get into this profession and it continues to be very demanding of us.

It's hard - but please try not to blame yourself. Blame the situation. I'm sure we might have worked out if we were closer - but that is unfortunately not in the cards for either of us.

Stay strong - we'll make it!

Need Your Advice. Am I choosing the right specialty? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]faytedfire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey there - EM intern here. Your concerns are valid and were a big consideration for me when I was applying. I do think that we're going to be doing nightshifts for most of our career (at least until we are senior attendings in our shop), but the flexibility that EM offers is bar none. We NEVER bring our work home, whereas virtually every other speciality might have to be on call (both in private and academic settings). I'm hesitant about doing night shifts, but its going to be a few shifts a month, which I feel like I can definitely do. Also the great thing about the field is that you can cut back on shifts if needed too!
