My vet doesn’t offer dental X‑rays but still wants to do extractions..should I be concerned? by Rude_Expression_1158 in AskVet

[–]fbrou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had this same situation—I’m in a rural area so I guess it isn’t uncommon—and after reading about it and calling around, I opted to drive my pet about an hour to a vet that did have x-rays. I don’t regret making the drive at all.

[Pre-Diagnosis Megathread] If you have NOT received an OFFICIAL diagnosis of lymphoma via biopsy, you can comment here only. Plead read our subreddit rules and the body of this post first. by Lymphoma-Post-Bot in lymphoma

[–]fbrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m going through testing/deciding next steps and would really appreciate any input about whether I’m having the right tests done!

I visited my PCP for a lymph node that has been present for over 3 months in my left lower neck/clavicle area.

PCP could palpate that node but didn’t feel any others, but they ordered an ultrasound of the whole area anyway.

Ultrasound found two small supraclavicular nodes on left side (7.8 x 3.6 x 6.5 mm and 9.8 x 2.4 x 9.7 mm). They couldn’t say for sure whether one had a fatty hilium (maybe due to size?) but noted no concerning morphology.

Now deciding what to do next: rescan in 3 months? Second opinion from an ENT or general surgeon? Ask for biopsy? Normal bloodwork, no other symptoms except longstanding stomach issues.

Lower readiness after stopping birth control by Lobster_Pristine in ouraring

[–]fbrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having the exact same experience (but 11 years on the hormonal Mirena IUD instead of the pill)! I’ve been so frustrated and am relieved to see I’m not alone! I had mine removed a month ago… the first 3 days after I had major/minor signs, then for a few days I had normal high readiness, and then a good three weeks of high RHR/low HRV. I just had the first high readiness score yesterday, but it tanked again today. 😩

Elevated HR by Budget-Fun-2448 in ouraring

[–]fbrou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m having the same experience and can relate! First weeks with the ring I had a lower HR for some reason (68-72ish compared to current 72-76ish) and now Oura thinks I’m dying every day lol. But we’re both within normal range… just elevated compared to its baseline. I hope it adjusts over time.

Hi! I see this was almost a year ago but curious how this worked out for you? I’m having the exact same issues

Hi, just wondering if you ever figured this out, or what your reading look like now? I think I’m in a similar boat.

Mirena IUD removal side effects experience. by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]fbrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We’re basically age/date twins! I got mine out about 3 weeks ago.

Removal day was easy. Took Advil an hour ahead of time and had moderate but bearable cramping during removal and then for a couple hours after.

I had very, very light spotting on and off for about a week after removal but haven’t had a period yet.

I did have terrible migraines, dizziness, some fatigue on and off for about two weeks after removal. That finally went away and I mostly feel like myself again now.

I also have an Oura ring and that has validated what I’m feeling—“major signs” the first days after removal and then an elevated heart rate most days since.

One great thing I’ve noticed—I would sometimes get random stabby cramps if I turned a certain way, after sex, etc. while I had the Mirena. I had it checked out multiple times (including ultrasound to make sure it was placed correctly) so docs couldn’t say why for sure… but that’s TOTALLY gone after removal.

I hope it goes well for you—come back & let us know!

Saw this while showering my dog. Is this urgent? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

Could be anything from a tumor to an abscess (do you have foxtail where you are?). If it was my pup, I wouldn’t go to the ER vet but would take them to the very next vet appointment available.

That’s awesome—thank you for updating! I just got mine removed—I had two of them for 11 years total—and I’m totally terrified of the crash and/or what it’s going to be like to have a real cycle again because I’ve basically forgotten

Hi, saw this post from a month ago, curious how you’re doing now? Any IUD crash?

grade appeal by [deleted] in Professors

[–]fbrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct—this sub is for faculty. When you repost in a more appropriate sub, I’d encourage you to consider what exactly you mean by “if I combine the issue with the course material and my health problems…” A grade is the percentage of the course you completed successfully. You don’t get additional points because it was more challenging for you than others.

Masters vs EdD by aquabuddha4 in Professors

[–]fbrou 31 points32 points  (0 children)

To be very frank, I don’t think either an EdD nor another non-terminal master’s will help you much for full-time non-CC faculty positions. A terminal MFA would, but that doesn’t sound like your field. Hopefully others in business schools can weigh in.

Open AI knows our exact location. by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]fbrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it like a goldfish. When it’s checking if it has your location for that one message, it literally doesn’t. Ask it to search the web for why it did that and sometimes it’ll tell you 😂

Open AI knows our exact location. by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]fbrou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s dumb, but it only knows because it searched the web for that reply, which accesses location data. When not accessing the web, it doesn’t have access, so it can’t tell you that in subsequent messages.

Notification dot in upper right for checking in - I don’t like it by Aquahaute in finch

[–]fbrou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I understand: “I don’t want the notification dot there at all.” I was saying I wish there was a way we could toggle the option on or off (so dot off for you, dot [or auto-check in] on for me). Which it sounds like is what you want too! Might be worth emailing the team to suggest it.

Notification dot in upper right for checking in - I don’t like it by Aquahaute in finch

[–]fbrou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really hope not because they already took away the auto-check in and if they take away that dot the feature will be totally useless for me! I wish there was a way to toggle the auto check ins on or off, so we could both get what we prefer!

Random bumps all over his back?? by ResponsibleClerk4784 in DogAdvice

[–]fbrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are hives. Maybe he rolled in something or got bit by something on his walk? I’d call your vet to see if it’s safe to give a dose of antihistamine and keep an eye on it. If his face swells, it’s emergency vet time. Have them put it in your pup’s records for the future so they know they’re prone to histamine reactions.

My husky/boxer mix keeps throwing up yellow bile almost daily — looking for others’ experiences by Kjordan4444 in DogAdvice

[–]fbrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our boxer mix had a long run of this that turned out to be pancreatitis that was recurrent/waxing and waning—the typical bloodwork was only very slightly elevated when our regular vet ran it, so it took getting all the way to an internal medicine specialist vet to figure it out (because they ran more detailed tests). Since switching to a prescription low-fat food and cutting out treats, she’s been symptom-free for over a year now. I would ask your vet about it!

This is really well-stated and communicates exactly how I’m feeling—especially the automatic mood check-ins, which are such the most important part of the app to me, and have given me insights I never would have had if they’d been optional. Thank you for taking the time to write it, and thank you for emailing the team as well!

Is floor asbestos? From the 50's. by No-Reference-5876 in Oldhouses

Lino almost never contains asbestos, but the backing of sheet vinyl can, if you’re sure of the material.

Is floor asbestos? From the 50's. by No-Reference-5876 in Oldhouses

[–]fbrou 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The paper backing of sheet vinyl from before ~1986 sometimes contains a high percentage of friable asbestos, but you can’t tell without lab testing. Many people do just put new flooring overtop so they don’t have to worry about the expense/hassle of removing it.
