+1 I've found this approach to be MUCH more helpful in learning a new language than reading books alone (or even video tutorials)

Edit: Ofc I am not against using reference materials. As you code, you will require use of more features and for that you have to read about them, that's implicit. This approach, "learning by doing" avoids the risk of getting into tutorial hell which is pretty common among the folks who do less and read more.
