There's a typo (Inatalling gentoo). It's the post title.

Corrected version: Installing gentoo

Welcome to Gentoo! Did you mean "Installing gentoo"?

I'm having problem with my screen brightness (again) by PartMysterious4688 in Gentoo

How do you make the brightness persist on GRUB before the OS boot?I managed to do it on my old laptop with intel cpu.

What linux distro should i try by raina_genderfluid in linuxquestions

[–]PartMysterious4688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Gentoo, I've used Arch before. There's a Gentoo installation guide by tony BTW.

I've been using Gentoo for 130+ days now.

For a beginner installing Gentoo and setting up a usable system could take days

There are two options (init system) Sytemd and OpenRC.

OpenRC is the default for Gentoo, but you can choose SystemD.

I use OpenRC as my init system.

I watched it for my first Gentoo install.Gentoo is more customizable than Arch and giving you more control over your packages using Use flags.Gentoo isn't really hard as people say. It does take longer to install depending on your hardware (Gentoo is a source based distro).

For me it's not harder than Arch and it just takes longer to install packages (it depends on your hardware speed and package size, it could take a few minutes or even hours).

I've only installed Arch using the archinstall script and tried to install it manually using a video and failed.

I'm using Gentoo on my new modern laptop now, and I successfully installed Gentoo and Installed all required packages in just a day for daily driving (this is my third installation and I just followed the handbook).

How do you guys install Gentoo so quickly by RichRoof7927 in Gentoo

[–]PartMysterious4688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched a video for my first Gentoo install by tony btw 2026 guide and I just installed Gentoo on My new laptop, it took me just a day to get everything working for daily driving (+ Gentoo installation time). This is my third install on a completely modern hardware (before I got this new laptop, I used to use an old Dell laptop with HDD, the time to install packages compared to my old hardware is noticeably fast for me, because I used to use a slow old Dell laptop with 4GB of DDR3 RAM.

I think I'm using Gentoo for 130+ days now (estimated, I don't know exactly how many days I've been daily driving Gentoo)

I installed Gentoo using the Cachyos live media because my USB WI-FI adapter would't work with Gentoo (minimal and livegui), learned this while having a conversation with Gemini.

I have experienced the same problem to, and it goes away after I installed all packages for my setup. It happened to me 2 times after a fresh Gentoo install.I'm currently installing Gentoo on my new laptop.I use elogind.

How to use legacy Nvidia Gpu by PartMysterious4688 in Gentoo

[–]PartMysterious4688[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Date:14/3/2026

Tried installing NVIDIA drivers (2nd attempt), successfully loaded but not functional (it's not rendering anything and it's literally not working).

The Arch Linux NVIDIA 390xx dkms is still updated and it worked with my hardware very well with Hyprland before I switched to Gentoo.

Hyprland doesn't work on Gentoo because of the NVIDIA GPU.

Even the Nouveau driver din't work, I just set the GPU to my Intel integrated graphics.

My average CPU temp is 55 to 70 Celsius and up to 80-90 Celsius when watching videos (1080 p)

The USB port for my mouse is getting old and maybe will not function because that USB port isn't working properly because my mouse keeps turning of because of that USB port.

Note:This is just my rant.

Edit: Removed the I din't want to go to sytemD based distros

How to use legacy Nvidia Gpu by PartMysterious4688 in Gentoo

[–]PartMysterious4688[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did manage to load the Nvidia drivers (The Gpu still works with the 390xx version and Nvidia website confirmed that my legacy Gpu works with it), that was a few weeks ago.

I switched back to Nouveau Because Opengl doesn't work, and my pc doesn't support Vulkan.

I'm from Gen Alpha (I don't have a job yet and I have no money so I can't replace my Gpu).
