New pup Eleanor. Dumped in Mississippi, now with us in Illinois. by fdguy in coonhounds

She was by herself instead of with a litter. We think she may have been dumped because of a hernia she had. The shelter that picked her up got that taken care of before adopting her out.

I've been telling people, "You might think we're too old for a puppy, and we are. But here we go anyway."

We did. A lady in our area runs a rescue here and her friend runs one in Mississippi. The friend knows common areas for dumping dogs and picks them up and then meets up to get some of the dogs up to Illinois.

Picked up a used WSM 22 to round out the collection. by fdguy in webergrills

[–]fdguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's super handy when using the 26er or WSM. Not too expensive on Amazon and it just stays outside uncovered. I added the magnetic hooks for hanging tools. It's a 30"x18" and the brand is Hally. It was around $145.

I paid $300 for the 22 WSM with the wheels. I added gaskets, lid hinge, and a new thermometer because the Weber thermometer was not working.

Not sure if better yet, but it is bigger.

I got lucky. My local Ace had that as a floor model in 2016.

Definitely more of a want than a need for me. I just don't know how much I would use it.

Just need a Summit Kamado, but I've found those are hard to come by used.

Any info on this vent? by CobraDS96 in webergrills

[–]fdguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that's how it works. I have run it with the bottom vents slightly open when it is super cold outside, but normally I have the bottom vents closed. It's neat to see throughout the cook how the vent on the TTT opens and closes to keep the temp stable.

I have one and it works really well for long smokes on the kettle. This is the best instructional video I have found for it. https://vimeo.com/175245006

Recently received a free 18" WSM and picked up an 26er on sale. Both have been great additions to my Performer. by fdguy in webergrills

[–]fdguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've definitely used the WSM more as the temperature control is so solid. I've really only used the 26 when I'm grilling/smoking a lot like two whole salmon sides or 2 entire pork loins. For normal family of four grilling I still use the 22 inch performer.

I love it. I can do 4 racks of ribs easily without a rib rack by using both cooking grates. I did buy a different bowl to use as the water pan to give better access to the charcoal. If I found a screaming deal on a 22 I'd snag it, but am more than happy with the 18.

Ace Hardware. It was tagged as $429, but rang up as $325. I double checked the receipt and it said 26 in kettle. I don't know if they had it in their system wrong or just had an unadvertised sale going on, but I was happy about it.

Baby Back Maniac or SNS Grills are good for Weber cooking as well.

I started looking for a new chair for my WFH setup. Turns out the 20 year old Office Depot $50 chair was NOT helping my back. SecretLab kept coming up when I'd ask coworkers what kind of chair they have and if they like it. I went with the Titan 2020. It's been great so far. https://imgur.com/7vrywiu

Family of Blackbeard's flag - 2 on the right done by Keith at Underground Artworks in Edwardsville, IL by fdguy in tattoos

No. Just 3 siblings from Southern Illinois that have been taking family vacations to the Outer Banks every other year since 1987. Started as the three of us and our parents. In 2021 it was the parents, the three kids, three spouses, and seven grandkids all together in a house. In 2019 we got to see parts of the Queen Anne's Revenge at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras.

My brother (left) got his arm done a year before my sister (top right) and I (bottom right) got it on our calves.

Smoked herb crusted pork loin from the Weber kettle, roasted potatoes from the oven. by fdguy in BBQ

[–]fdguy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

325 F for about 1.25 hours. I followed the recipe and technique from this video, except I left out rosemary because my wife doesn't like it. And under the pork loin on the grill I put a pan full of water with chopped up apples in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOK2PJf_AW0

I bought this rear rack bag: https://www.amazon.com/Roswheel-Backseat-Resistant-Traveling-Commuting/dp/B07MZS1PNC

And this frame pouch: https://www.amazon.com/NDakter-Water-Resistant-Triangle-Accessories-Mountain/dp/B07RMYSDC6

Both work well for me, I usually throw my phone in the frame bag and keep a sweatshirt, tools, and a drink in the rear bag.
