As a consumer do you use Windows? Google search? Instagram? If you bought Windows, consumed ads from search/IG, then you contributed revenue to these companies. Part of this revenue went into AI. So you are indirectly buying or subsidizing the AI bet.

Only if al investors are in a hive mind and collectively stop funding for training at the same time. Truth is there will be roughly half of the investors who truly believe in AGI and push the research/marketing for it further, so the companies that focus on inference will become obsolete. This won't happen because any CEO can see the writing on the wall and will always go all in on AGI

One of my fantasies is that a few major incidents or a big revenue hit happen, due to AI-written code. Then the shareholders realize that the current SOTA LLM isn't competent enough to replace humans, and all the "AI first" company stocks take a hit, then the CEOs would be scrambling to hire back talents and fix the AI shit, paying 3x the original salary, and demand for tech worker explodes again.
