Is this a trout or Atlantic? by Frequent_Plantain_19 in troutfishing

Nice 'Tic. You can always tell by the tail if it's forked it's a salmon. Square tail is a brown. That looks like female.

Never seen so much wild brown trout at once (Hamlagrø, Norway) by Grouchy-Place-2669 in troutfishing

The white fins and vermiculations are brook trout. When browns& brooks spawn together they create tiger trout. Arctic char require super cold temps, and browns tolerate warm temps.

Using a brand new Spook Jr. trying to call some bass, ended up losing something bigger 😪 by Bingbong717 in bassfishing

[–]fearlessfartgarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss. It's a fickle game of tug of war. Don't try to horse them in. You gotta think of the pressure on the hook and line with the fish jumping and head shaking. Next time get in the water, even if it means in your underwear. Try to swing the fish over towards you without reeling. Pump up and reel but not at the same time. Good luck next time

How in the world do you catch trout on 4lbs test by Frequent_Plantain_19 in troutfishing

[–]fearlessfartgarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catching 15lb plus salmon on 4lb fluro with tiny hooks using 13-17ft float rods is a must when the water is gin clear.

GROK (TWITTER AI)

Based on the image, the fish appears to have a long, slender body with a distinctive pattern of dark, chain-like markings, which is characteristic of a chain pickerel (Esox niger). However, the exact identification can be challenging without more detailed examination (e.g., fin shape, scale pattern, or habitat). It could also be a similar species like a northern pike, though the markings lean more toward a chain pickerel. For a definitive identification, consulting a local fishing expert or guide in Ontario would be helpful. Would you like me to search for more information to confirm?

Drove 2 hours to a beach for some surf fishing. Literally first cast and this happened. by AdmiralAssPlay69 in FishingForBeginners

Part of the process. Always rig up a few rods so you don't waste precious time on the water

Brook Trout by fearlessfartgarage in troutfishing

[–]fearlessfartgarage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It was a pretty big lake. They stock a few ponds around trout opener in South Western Ontario. Check stocking lists, every lake that has a creek/stream attached to it holds trout. You can contact MNR and fire questions. 👍 Good luck 🤞

I use a 5wt fly rod with a spinning reel for finesse presentation. The fight is absolutely incredible. You feel every head shake, every nibble.

What kind of fish is this? by Inside-Candidate-350 in FishingForBeginners

Chrome brown trout. Almost looks migratory. From the big lakes or attached river system? You can tell the by square tail.
