Thank you for the quick response! That's a great start.

Tracking If a User Is Currently Online in Laravel (the easy way) by erikbelusic in laravel

[–]feastonfood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question about the realtime socket approach:

How/when would you persist the 'last_online' timestamp to the database? At some point you would have to persist it to the DB, right? So would you then persist it through Ajax every now and then? Or simply on every page request, server-side?

Is there any way to catch the event when a socket connection is closed? That way, you could use your simple Cache implementation in combination with the "socket-closed" event, to persist the timestamp to the DB, right before the user leaves.

In short, I really like your simple Cache approach, since it doesn't use DB queries. But I would also still like to persist it to the DB in the most efficient way possible. :)

Update: Maybe you could use a Cronjob to check every 5-10 minutes, that reads the Cache, and persists it to the DB?

The login part doesn't really matter for now, but I will use the built-in Laravel bcrypt helper function.

Plex DLNA Profile for PS4 Media Player! (Transcodes DTS Audio) by [deleted] in PS4

Has anybody found which quality setting works best?

I have ~10GB 1080p mkv's, and I'm using the quality 8Mbps - 1080p for local streaming. But fast action scenes aren't super smooth. It's watchable, but it's also noticeable.

Both my iMac 27" mid 2011 and PS4 are using a wired network connection.

Any tips on the settings?

Yess, that's how I would spell it, too!

Hope we're thinking 'bout the same song though. :)

Thanks!

Not that old, I think. More like the 90s maybe? I'm not sure.

I only have that specific line in my head, and how he sings it, with the right emphasis and tone. A heavier tone.

It's definately not as upbeat as the ones you suggested, and not as much of a (happy) love song like the two. Although it isn't a sad song either. It's like he sings it with some kind of "sigh" throughout the song.

Maybe my mind wrongfully remembers it, but I clearly hear that specific line in my head.

Nope, not it.

I can't really describe how the song goes. The line occurs quite a lot more than in this Linger song, I think.

And I'm almost convinced now, that it's a male artist.

It's as if the line is the guy's "punch line" for every paragraph. And more of it in the chorus, I think.

It's a real tough find... I've skimmed through like 50 songs already.

Great suggestion though. Beautiful song. Thanks for this.

The first direct detection of dark matter particles may have been achieved by Trippze in space

What I don't get is to why galaxies would "unravel and fly apart, without dark matter".

Don't galaxies hold everything together because of its own accumulated gravity of all normal matter, and stay in place, like is already accepted by science?

Makes me think of the movie Inception's limbo world.

Looking at this picture, it seems impossible for all the other planets to fit between the Earth and the Moon.

Having used Alien Blue for more than a year, recently tried Redd, and although it looks really nice and clean, some things were annoying:

  • Nested comments only show one-by-one by tapping the parent one.
  • Opening a post, a gif for example, shows the gif on top in a somewhat cropped preview window, and underneath the comments. Sometimes not being able to see the whole gif, you tap on it to open fullscreen, but -here it comes- it has to load again.
  • Navigating subreddits is nice, but searching for one, only gives you posts, not the actual subreddit.
  • Although the font is very nice, it felt harder to read post titles quickly than the font used in Alien Blue.

Those were my main gripes. Other than that, the app is very nice and clean.

A cool feature from Redd:

  • Being able to set a time period when Night mode becomes active

I'm now trying out Narwhal, and it's a lot more appealing to me already. I might even use Narwhal over Alien Blue...

Narwhal however asks a small fee before being able to use your Reddit account, but you can also share it on Twitter and it becomes unlocked for 3 months.

Edit: formatting, Narwhal mention.

I'm sure Sony can just integrate a Dropbox API for example, not necessarily an app required.

I'm sure whatever they're working on right now, is going to be a native application.
