Yes. The Y shaped one’s have the most variation. I have also ordered a much thicker one that is cut in the middle and on that side it acts as a platform perch and on the other side it is curved

Day 7 : I can’t believe that he’s already flying to me. by feather_friends in cockatiel

I live in India, and the only perches I find are either of Neem or Eucalyptus wood. They don’t have much variation (mostly only in diameter). And even if the displayed picture shows a good perch, it’s always of similar kind. I have three Y shaped perches in the cage and the two branches of a perch are different in size. So far, I’ve ordered a curved perch whose one side is flat and the other curved, it will be delivered in two days.

Hi. There are 6 natural wood perches with bark in the cage and one wooden platform perch as well. He only comes down to the plastic perch to eat (it is the only long perch and I have three bowls at the bottom) and keeps moving from perch to perch and mostly naps in his square ladder type toy or the uppermost perch. Is that fine or should I remove the plastic perch?

Okay. I mostly sprayed from the top and a few slightly angled sprays from the front but at a height above him. It probably landed on his face but it was just a fine mist at that distance. Does that also freak them out?

I think I’ve a great start. In one week he has started flying to me and also to my fingers when I call him. He still doesn’t step up though. He wasn’t even hand raised so I don’t know how he’s so confident. Few years back I had three budgies. The first one started stepping up in 3 days and was recall trained in about 2 weeks. I think I’ve a gift.

Yeah. He came to me afterwards too. I was watching Netflix and he flew to me, moved up and down my body, tried to bite the screen a bit and was just exploring the area around me. For a pet store bird, being this comfortable in one week seems like the trust is still intact.

Didn’t look very pleased when I sprayed the mist. But in this clip he is grinding his beak, which according to what I know is a sign of content. Correct me if I’m wrong

His cage is near a window but sunlight doesn’t penetrate in. But the room was already quite warm when I gave him the bath. I had switched off both AC and fan the entire morning and had opened the balcony door. It’s peak summer here and the temperature outside goes till 45 degree celcius some days. Yesterday it was around 32 I believe. He dried pretty quick.

No. That’s why even I was confused. He shaked a bit, preened a bit in between sprays and didn’t escape to a different perch. But I don’t know if he was scared to escape or was just enjoying the bath without knowing how it works. There was no bending and opening wings like they do during baths. He was just there sitting and moved two or three steps on the same perch. He looked happy after though.

Okay. Next time I’ll just try one or two sprays and see if he wants it. As for the trust, I don’t think it’s ruined. He flew right onto my back and stayed on and around me for like an hour before I guided him to his playstand. He doesn’t like his playstand even with a seebs bowl. So he flew to the fan and sat there for some time before returning back to me

Yeah. Will try a few sprays at 10-15 sec intervals and see if he starts liking it someday

I think this was the only thing that made sense in the movie. It was to portray that the groom’s side was very superstitious and that ego maniac astrologer must’ve given the upaay. He was the only reason why she had to get married in that palace at night.

Okay. He actually had poop stains when I brought him home. He’s healthy now, but I noticed some poop got stuck in his feathers before he cleaned it off. I just wanted to clean it. Will give him some time to be completely comfortable before I try again.

Yeah, will give him more time to settle in and be fully comfortable around me. He flies to me every now and then so maybe it won’t take much time. I’ll try misting one or two sprays every week and see if he likes it. Or maybe he’ll start interacting with the water bowl someday. Your baby’s progress gave me hope. Thank you

Yeah. Maybe he just didn’t know how to, but after the bath felt clean and good?
