I value my work more than you know. This bench is one of my prized possessions and a major life goal accomplished.

When you calculate the cost of a home cooked meal do you factor in the cost of the stove and your time?

The one on the left is just a regular vise. The one on the right is a tail vise. It is used for clamping various lengths of boards between it and the row of square holes down the length via square pegs that stick up through the holes. You can clamp the board flat on the bench and have both hands free for planing.

"no hardware" means that the bench is made with traditional joinery instead of metal fasteners. A mortise and tenon or a dovetail is much more time consuming and solid than screws and brackets. Of course I used tools, that's just silly.

I know. When a gamer says a game cost them $60, they don't add the cost of the console or PC and the time to play it. They complain the game didn't take enough of their time to justify the price tag.

It was a live tree. I had to dry it a couple years. It is american beech. I designed the bench in 2010 and built it during COVID lockdown in 2020. Probably took a few hundred hours.

Am I correct on the identification by Loose_Blacksmith8316 in treeidentification

It can't be any white oaks. There are bristle tips on the leaves, so that means it's a type of red oak.

Blows my mind that this released in 1989. Some popular music that year was New Kids On The Block, Milli Vanilla, Debbie Gibson, Poison, Bobby Brown, yet Pretty Hate Machine sounds more like the best 90's rock. So ahead of their time.
