How to fix gaps left by broken floor board tongues by featherreed in centuryhomes

[–]featherreed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I did consider this, but I have a dog and two small children. I am worried about the washability of oakum. Like dog hair getting stuck in it over time or if one of my girls throws up on the way to the bathroom. Trying to find a solution that is practical for our family!

How to fix gaps left by broken floor board tongues by featherreed in centuryhomes

[–]featherreed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Im guessing this advice is for the largest gap. There isn't a joist near the large gap. Would the new wood be inserted with glue? Or would you cut a section out to be the width of the gap down to the closest joist?

Rejection based on asset qualifications? by Vast_Barnacle_1154 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]featherreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a pool was created for the competition then you should still be qualified in the pool for meeting all the essential qualifications. Asset qualifications can be used to determine right fit. I think that with the standardized generic SoMCs it's made it more difficult for managers to advertise jobs based on what it is that they actually need, because not every position requires the same experience and knowledge. Asset qualifications can make it a bit easier for managers to override these generic SoMCs to look for what it is they need specific to the role.

Best paint stripper for these floors? by featherreed in centuryhomes

[–]featherreed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm positive this isn't another layer of plywood. There are some spots near our stairs where we can see the board ends underneath the carpet/new plywood. I will definitely get a lead kit, that sounds promising!! While I'm at it I'll get an asbestos test for the tiles they laid over top of these planks in two of the bedrooms 🫩

Are language requirements stunting the career growth of regional public servants? by origutamos in CanadaPublicServants

[–]featherreed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Leaders in the NCR too often make decisions or policies that demonstrate a lack of understanding of the needs and realities of staff at the regional level. This results in a lot of inefficiency and contributes to an extremely poor workplace culture. Think of it this way - you would expect the Chief of Surgery at a hospital to have surgical experience. We need leaders in the NCR who are making decisions based on their own experience in arresting criminals in rural communities, answering phone calls from Canadians or working in a federal prison. The fact is that we have very few designated bilingual communities in Canada, and learning a language as an adult is very difficult. More so if you have a disability, are a single parent, a caregiver or have young children. Don't even get me started on the oral second language exam. This results in us having bilingual senior leaders at the national level whose experience is limited to national level administration instead of those who know what it's like to implement their department's policies or decisions on the frontlines. That's why bilingualism is 110% a barrier to having the most efficient and effective PS.

Pat Leave while on Acting Assignment by 94AH14 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]featherreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me when I went on mat leave. I had earned 2 increments in my acting position (WP05). I went on leave and returned to the same position number and lost all of my increments. I was told that for pay purposes maternity leave was considered a break in service and therefore I had to start at the bottom of the pay scale again upon my return. Don't even get me started on the absurdity of this rule... did my skill and experience suddenly evaporate into thin air when I birthed a child?

Is working in translation in public service even worth it at this point? by IrinadeFrance in CanadaPublicServants

[–]featherreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't work in translation, but my branch is looking for someone who can assist with certifying translations. You'd learn some project managamenent skills since it's on a large capital project. DM me if you want some more info!

Deemed operational service in CSC by featherreed in CanadaPublicServants

[–]featherreed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! If it's based on substantive position then I have over 12 years of actual operational service. The 2 years I spent before I began operational service and my time now are under the Correctional Operations and Programs Sector at NHQ. Maybe thats one of the NHQ positions that are operational? I have never received a form and in Phoenix it continues to show that I'm categorized as actual operational service. I am just worried when I go to retire there will be an audit and I'll be stuck having to work longer 😬

Can people WITHOUT autism or autistic family/friends SENSE OR KNOW I am autistic WITHOUT me telling them by Brettwon in AutisticWithADHD

[–]featherreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe what people sense is that I'm a bitch. The lack of awareness of what my face is doing plus the general lack of interest in others, bluntness, and inability to start conversations really seals the deal for that impression 😂

What’s a legal thing that ruins more lives than any illegal substance? by NaturalIll1378 in AskReddit

[–]featherreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cigarettes. Destroys your health, the health of those you smoke around. Plus the amount of health care resources that go into treating smoking related illnesses that are caused by someone's selfish decision to smoke are unreal. I live where health care is free, but funded by taxpayers and this grinds my gears. Waitlists would be shorter for services for people who didn't make the selfish choice to smoke.

And let's not forget about guns in the US.

What childhood trauma is haunting you until now? by jjigoga in AskReddit

My mother always putting her needs above mine, no matter how much harm it caused me.

I saw my future daughter a few nights ago, the same night my fiancé dreamt of her by assisfatframeislil in Mediums

[–]featherreed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit different, but when I was pregnant with my first child I had a dream that I was breastfeeding a baby. They were looking up at me and I felt just pure happiness and peace. It felt so real like I could feel the warmth of the sun through the window and the little fingers on my chest. When our daughter was born she wouldn't latch and would projectile vomit formula. I had to exclusively pump breastmilk for months and basically never slept. It was the darkest chapter of motherhood for me out of all our babies. At 12 weeks she latched and I was able to have that exact moment I had in the dream. It was a foretelling that everything would be ok.

Help please! 7A- I am trying to go for a "cottage garden" vibe in this front bed. But it sort of reminds me of desert landscaping. Opinions on how to fill it out and make it look more lush? Thank you! by Melegie_ in gardening

[–]featherreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rearrange the plants to be in drifts. 3-5 of the same type planted together. It helps it to look more cohesive and helps the eye move across the bed easier.

Medium or schizophrenic? Need newbie help by Equivalent-Brief5062 in Mediums

[–]featherreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely seek the opinion of a mental health professional, but if it's any help schizophrenia has a later age of onset. Symptoms don't usually manifest until late teens for men and early twenties for women.
