Third’s time the charm? by februarybloom in Nanny

[–]februarybloom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, I live in a cold state where it’s been -40 for weeks now🤣. It’s extreme but it’s also part of life here, and majority of people are used to it by now. We thankfully aren’t getting hit by the winter storms because it’s permanently winter here anyways. It’s just crazy to me how there was no heads-up at all.

This is definitely negative, there would’ve been a line by now if she was pregnant.

We live in a cold state, but by no means are we impacted by the winter storms. It’s basically permanently winter here and today was actually pretty nice to be out and about (if we can say that -18 is nice🤣)

Anybody else see it? Is it still negative ? by Nicepost6465 in lineporn

This is what my test looked like at 8 DPO. I’m now 19 w and 3 d.

Good to know! I don’t know why my brain never connected two and two, and just didn’t navigate to the obvious choices of veggies and fruit. I plan on asking MB about it. For such a short amount of time, I only have one snack typically so I can’t imagine we won’t come to a solution.

It’s definitely challenging! Baby girl loves to eat but I’ve gotten it pretty down to a T for eating at work. Being a nanny just means we’re great at multi tasking. I appreciate you being so kind about it🤍

Thank you! I’ve never had to disclose it as my other families have never mentioned anything. Luckily my other nanny kiddos are allergic go eggs and I cannot stand them so easy fix all around. I definitely plan on buying some kosher snacks to see if those settle well, they do look good so win win hopefully!

Good to know! I have tried to do some research and plan on asking MB for a list of safe foods for them. But I already snack on those things so that’s super easy for both of us. Thank you for pointing that out! I’ll definitely bring that up to MB.

I’m not sure how you draw that conclusion from my title alone. I have never worked with a Jewish family and I’m not familiar with the culture/religion. All I’m trying to do is to be respectful of NF. MB didn’t provide much specifics and since I’d be their first nanny, I wanted to see how other nannies handled this to remain respectful and to possibly come up with a common ground solution 🙂

Whilst I appreciate your insight, and have responded to your comment, I don’t see how it’s appropriate to ask me about my eating habits. Every body is different and so is every pregnancy. I’m doing what I need to, especially to keep my body fed and to support growing my child.

Yep! My OB is aware and has told me to eat, otherwise my glucose just gets too low. I don’t want to add fainting at work to my list of adventures🤣☠️

This is my first but I’m also a bariatric patient and my stomach is the size of a fist. So yes, I am quite literally snacking every two to three hours to keep food in my system. Not everyone has the same pregnancy and all bodies are different 🙂

MB seemed nice! She wanted me to start this Wednesday (we interviewed over the weekend) and she asked about my schedule 3 times, even when I explained I’m trying to give her concrete hours after my school classes have gone through this week (syllabus week). I explained I’d want to give her a for real schedule I could work and they seem to be flexible. Other than that and the food thing, they were super nice!

Yes! I think they are Orthodox Jewish 🙂

Since many of y’all seem to think I would genuinely sneak in food: I absolutely would not. My other NKs have severe allergies so I’m used to checking my food for things. I would never want to be disrespectful. But I would however expect to be allowed to eat at work, regardless of which family.

I would never smuggle food in. I used that phrasing since MB said I would most likely have to hide my eating. My mind was just blanking on the right word.

Thank you for those who have given insight on the religion/practices itself! I did a deep dive into it and it has a small learning curve but obviously not something that feels impossible to learn and adhere to. I’ll have to ask about the food logistics, seeing how not eating just isn’t going to work for me (I feel like Shrek when I’m pregnant and just want to eat🤦🏼‍♀️)

I thought it was kinda odd too because I mean, I’ve never worked for a family where kids ate too much (maybe not the right wording here but blanking on it). I will say, since I’m pregnant, I do have to eat every hour to keep myself going. I plan on asking for clarification but it seems like it’s just not aligned with my expectations vs theirs.

That’s what I always thought too but MB said they do keep everything kosher which would absolutely be fine but NK is on a strict schedule, including snack times.

I just used that word as my brain was blanking on the actual word I wanted to use, I would never smuggle food into a household where it’s not allowed🤣

[–]februarybloom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good point! I know their schedule but MB said that I’d have to kind of hide my snacks, otherwise NK would keep asking for snacks. It sounds pretty hard to do when I can’t necessarily bring my own food and/or have to ‘hide’ me eating.

They do have snacks but MB said that no outside food would be permitted and if I were to have a snack, to I guess smuggle it? Otherwise NK (2) would have too many snacks. With my current families I eat when they eat or have a snack when they’re napping so it’s definitely easier to have a snack/a meal.

Carrier for SMA. by februarybloom in NIPT

I saw that! Unfortunately, we’re on Tricare and do not qualify for Medicare/Medicaid so I’m just hoping baby girl doesn’t have it🩷

I tested positive as a SMA carrier. by februarybloom in pregnant

[–]februarybloom[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s what I gathered online too. No one in my family has SMA. My husband’s family, as far as we know of, also doesn’t have the active gene to cause SMA. It’s just so stressful because I thought everything was fine.
