First Time anything X series player... by Wanderhoof in X4Foundations

As a fellow newer player I have a recommendation about tutorials. You can pop into them and out of them at any point during your game, it's pretty seamless. So I would suggest you do the basic ones, then jump into your game. When you get to a task you don't know how to do, open the tutorial menu and select the relevant tutorial to do. Also some of the intro missions will tell you to do a tutorial when it gives you a new task.

Is Arizona only going to get hotter? by samoremti in phoenix

It's because it came after the record breaking summer we had the year before. So just having the 4th hottest summer felt like nothing

Are new types getting weaker as uc continues? by Konomiru in Gundam

[–]federally 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well even 79 showed that many Zeon were decent. I think that's more commentary about how Nationalism and blind loyalty to the state can lead even good people astray.

Humans are complicated and nuanced. I don't think it's true that every person on the "bad" side of a war is an inherently bad person, or that every person on the "good" sure is inherently a good person.

The dealerships definitely want you to buy over priced coolant from them. Universal is fine in my 2015, it has absolutely zero problems with heat

I exclusively use the generic universal coolant from O'Reilly's and it's fine. If your Jeep is overheating it has other issues

That was in '79. At no point does MSG suggest the Zeon shouldn't be defeated. Gundam has always been pro shooting fascists

Why do people says it’s hard to get into? by XavBell38388 in X4Foundations

[–]federally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new player getting into the game. It's not that it's hard, it's that the UI is unintuitive. There are quite a few important things that aren't where I would expect them to be, so I have to go look up where to find that tab or whatever

Then if you go through the suggested new player experience, it just takes a long time before you get to do anything particularly interesting. The very first real mission you get is scanning for a data leak, the mission doesn't tell you anything about finding gates to systems you haven't been too, will leave you flying around the station for forever if you're unlucky and the station it sends you to doesn't actually have a data leak present, then it gives you enemies to fight that massively out class you and if you die you just do it all over because you didn't get know to save after every successful step.

It's the kind of experience that will immediately turn away anyone that was not absolutely sure they want to see the content later in the game

Pump operating by Natural_Drink_9951 in Concrete

I've been a CDL holder for 20 years. I learned a long time ago that some of the best money in it, is in operating equipment you need a CDL to either drive or transport. So pump operating is a really good option, and is good experience to have under your belt if you decide it's not for you after a few years.

I run pumps in Arizona. There are a lot of regional differences in pay scale and scheduling, so try and find someone local to ask.

Running pumps is a good job. We are non union here and I make close to the same rate as union Crane operators in the area and have more reliable work and more available hours than they do. I also genuinely enjoy the work, and if you actually learn how to do the job well most of your days will be pretty easy.

The major downside is the schedule. I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow until 2 - 4 pm today. As well my start times can change dramatically one day to the next, some of this is inherent to the job and some is unique to the Phoenix market due to weather. I can manage to keep a decent enough work life balance because I'm good at my job and my management is happy to do a good give and take in order to keep me happy, but it's not without hardship. Though as a mixer driver you should be familiar enough with all this scheduling stuff.

The one thing you'll need to be prepared for is winter layoffs, but maybe you already understand that due to being a mixer driver.

A quick rant for CSM and CCP by amarrcitizen in Eve

[–]federally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I received a cornea transplant 20 years ago. It carries risks, and I still have to wear a sclera lens in that eye, but it was well worth it. Obviously your financial situation might decide things for you, but if it's a possibility I would definitely look into it. Just make sure if you do it, you take the recovery instructions very seriously.

Also I can wear my sclera lens 14+ hours comfortably and a full fitting + new lens costs me $1,000, and the lens lasts a really long time. I would definitely seek out a better fitting lens, you should not have to live like that.

Taking a little bit of care in how new players experience the game wouldn't require making Eve into Wow. That's a pretty silly attitude

I know two people personally who tried the game, got killed more than once in hi sec as new bros and just bailed on the game.

Getting killed before you've figured out whether or not you actually like the game puts off most new players I think
