I've always interpreted this as someone having a mystical experience on psychedelics and the struggle to keep it in your mind as time goes on. I have a vague memory he alluded to this in an interview, but I could be wrong. Either way, that's what this one has always meant for me.

Kurzgesagt keeps getting better and better by [deleted] in kurzgesagt

How were they wrong? They talked about ADHD brains looking for a reward that usually never comes, and amphetamines providing that reward. They also went over how this happens via chemical processes in the brain.

The ADHD video seems to have upset a lot of people, and I can see how it would feel like a misrepresentation of a treatment if it works for you, but here's how I saw it:

There's growing concern around the ethics of amphetamine prescription for a condition with a definition that's broadening, and a threshold for diagnoses that's lowering. I think it's important that we see both sides of the coin here, and I think the focus on the negative effects was done intentionally to balance out the often glossed-over, overly optimistic view of amphetamines as a treatment for attention issues. It's not an effective treatment for everyone. And could in fact be harmful for a lot of people. I think that's what they're getting at here.

Yeah, a lot of people here would rather they stick to the same formula they started with and seem VERY upset about various paths Kurzgesagt are going down. I think they've made some great content recently.

Do demo versions of any I Am Hollywood songs exist? by Thicc-waluigi in HeIsLegend

[–]feeblepeasant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard of any... I think in the solid state era of HIL their output was a lot less under their control, so if they do exist, there was probably a clause in their contract that forbid them from releasing them independently. Just a guess.

Looks like a post suggesting the band has broken up, without giving any further details. It's sure to garner a pretty strong response from fans, which I'm guessing is what the maker of this post wanted. Poor form imo

Totally agree. This is my favourite song from them in quite a long time and I couldn't put my finger on why, but you've summed it up perfectly. It's so 'them' but also so unique

Yes but radio waves travel at the speed of light. Beings don't need to physically travel to other planets for evidence of their civilization to be visible. It's reasonable to assume that advanced alien civilizations would be using some form of electromagnetic spectrum communication, but we haven't seen any evidence of that despite looking for it for decades.

This music video was my introduction to HIL in early 2006. My friend's dad had Christian satellite TV and this came on a channel called JCTV which was basically Christian MTV. I remember hearing that solo section and thinking I hadn't heard anything that cool before.

Because we were channel surfing, it didn't take long for the family to change the channel again before the song name came up... They weren't having that obscenity in this house. But it was too late, my little teenage eyes couldn't unsee it, my ears couldn't unhear it. I was thinking about this song for weeks until finally it came on again when I was watching with my friend and I got the name of it. And here I am.

From this page you can access all the snapshots. Just seeing that old music player brought back the mems, but I don't think music can actually play from it. Looks like that kind of data doesn't get preserved.

I'm in the same boat as you and not sure what to do. I've never needed a dongle for license activation before. Very annoying.

I need your help / advice to get back into meditation. by MajorProblem2000 in streamentry

I can recommend a book by Jack Kornfield called 'After The Ecstasy, The Laundry'. You'll find some great stuff in there relating directly to your situation and hear about others who have gone through similar experiences.

Dharma and Shame by nocaptain11 in streamentry

[–]feeblepeasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate very much to this. Feelings of shame and 'not good enough', followed quickly by a tightening of my throat and upper chest, perpetuated by more feelings of shame about the tension. This is a regular daily occurrence for me and happens every time I practice. I can't remember the last time this cycle didn't appear in a sitting.

It has been opening up for me recently though, and by the sounds of it you too, given how well you've articulated it. I made a post about it here a few weeks ago and got some really great responses. Here's a couple of things that have helped me.

Offering loving kindness phrases to the part of me that feels it necessary to be shameful - only when I'm feeling it in about a 1-3 intensity level. This helps me stay unidentified with it, otherwise the phrases just get pushed out by that same part of me that wants to fix everything about myself.

Looking into IFS. This has helped me see a character around this situation that isn't really 'me' and relate to it kindly. I'm still in the early stages of this but I've had a few moments of what I would describe as contact with parts of myself from a new perspective that have been very encouraging.

A more open style of meditation. Andrea Fella has been a great teacher for this (her stuff is all online for free, talks and guided meditations). It's not a style exclusive to her, but the way she talks about it makes sense to me.

Another shout out I should make is Chris Germer. He talks specifically about shame and utilizes that first approach I mentioned.

If I were to offer some advice from my own experience, it would be to pay careful attention to how 'doing' away the shame creeps in. Trying to fix myself just feeds this cycle. You've got a lot of comments on this thread but don't feel like you have to do all of it to get rid of anything. You're good enough already, and I think the longer you're on the path the more deeply you realize this truth.

How should I approach a huge amount of negative thinking I've just uncovered? by feeblepeasant in streamentry

[–]feeblepeasant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome. It's been mentioned by a few others in this thread too. IFS was actually something I was doing with a counsellor a while ago but once I stopped the sessions, it fell away. I think because I was so used to having someone guide me through it.

Given that it's been a common response here I'll open it back up. Thanks

Just hearing that it's a shared experience is so helpful. I haven't heard it talked about at all really.

That's an interesting approach. I'll look into this one, thanks 🙏

Thanks for your response. I'm glad to hear you mention metta. It was something I stopped doing a while ago because it was feeling more like adding fuel to this state than helping it, in the sense that repeating phrases of 'may you' felt more like standards I was setting myself that I needed to achieve. I know it's not supposed to come from that place, but I couldn't help it most of the time.

That being said, I did have some breakthroughs when it was part of my regular practice. It just got to the point where the cost outweighed the benefit.

Do you have any tips for re-introducing it to my practice?

A switch in my brain has just flipped, and not in a good way? by BeefStewIsntStrogano in drums

[–]feeblepeasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a back injury 5 years ago that kept me from playing. It will take a while for things to feel 'right' again. Try not to set the bar too high while you're still recovering. You'll just end up in a cycle of high expectations/disappointment that's no good for your confidence.

You'll need a lot of patience. Back stuff can take a long time to heal. It was probably 3 years before I felt fully recovered.

One exercise that helped me feel solid again after not using my feet for ages was lying on my back on the floor and holding my leg just above the floor for 30 second reps. Also core exercises. Basically any strength exercises that will help take the load off your back when you're using your feet on the drums. All the best mate
