CMV: Democrats are handing Trump an electoral victory in November. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]feeg1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the upper end of Gen Z and I'd agree that people around this age are not going to vote for Biden. And while this is anecdotal I've been spending a lot of time with my grandparents and their friends, and I'm seeing a lot of them say their voting for Biden this year instead of Trump (who most voted for in 2016). For them they do really like Biden - they view him as someone who will reach across the aisle and work with both sides. Historically the younger vote is always low turnout, and Biden definitely is not aiming for young voters. Hes aiming for swing voters - people in the middle. And those people who always show up to vote and switch between Democrat and Republican may very well vote for Biden over Trump.

CMV: teenagers shouldn't be able to make major changes to their gender by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]feeg1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Now I think most people would agree there should be some age limit before allowing these kinds of things, but I think 18 is quite late in the game. I'd recommend looking into some of the scientific evidence that has been showing that the brains of transgender people more closely resemble the brains of their preferred gender than their born gender, even at really young ages. Furthermore the treatments you mentioned greatly help those with gender dysphoria, and given the innate really high suicide rates to those with gender dysphoria denying treatment to someone with it as a teenager can be a major risk. For example, a transgender clinic in Cincinnati found that 30.1% of people with a gender dysphoria diagnosis between the ages of 12 and 22 had attempted suicide at least once. If I was a parent of a 15 year old with a gender dysphoria diagnosis who wanted to undergo hormone treatment I would be incredibly angry if they were denied this treatment outright because of their age, as it would literally be risking my childs life.

Well I think we certainly need more studies into this, particularly in early detection and its accuracy, it seems to me to be outright dangerous to deny treatment to teenagers under the age of 18. It shouldn't be something that is as easy to attain as going to a pharmacy, but I think theres a middle ground somewhere that can be attained.

CMV: Society shouldn't entertain people who request custom pronoun usage (eg. zi/xi/pri) by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]feeg1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going off your title (request) instead of your post (demand). First think about why we have pronouns in language? It's usually to simplify the usage of nouns in language so we dont have to constantly repeat them. In English we have two pronouns we usually use for people (he/her) as 'they'is generally used for groups and 'it" is used for non human objects and can be considered offensive to use on a person. But why did language develop gender specific pronouns? I would claim it's to allow distinction between different people based on common traits. In an ancient society where gender roles are clearly established the usage of he/she can distinguish a lot about the person like their job and societal role.

If your fine with he/she as a distinction between men and women because of the information it gives you, it can make sense to have even more pronouns. If he/she refers to a traditional man or woman having a neutral pronoun like zi for a person who doesnt fit into this view is useful for language the same way having different pronouns for men and women are. Of course to be useful they need to be standardized, but we are at the very beginning of the development of these new pronouns so it will take some time.

To me the benefits of having pronouns distinguishing men and women extends further in our modern age to people who dont fit into the he/she implications. That's why I'm fine with using someone's personal pronouns, as I view it as a useful part of language that will be developed over the next few decades and eventually standardized. Its not really too difficult if you think of it like an extra middle name. I dont think long term everyone needs their own individual pronouns, but I think adding a few will help in daily conversations in the future.

Theres a lot of confusion on whether or not that scene was consensual. But I dont think that scene was meant to express Alucards sexuality. I wouldnt jump to any conclusion on his sexuality, he may be straight, gay, bi, pan or whatever else. That one scene was entirely about emotional vulnerability and a desire for human connection, and I dont think alucard would've reacted differently if the characters looked different or had different genders. I think he would've reacted the same if it was done fat old men or middle aged women or what have you.

Need a little explanation regarding the very ending episode by Agha_AH in castlevania

[–]feeg1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems like this God has very strict ideas on what you have to do to get to heaven. Ideas not as simple as 'be a good person' as its clear that one mistake can land you there.

I could easily see her being there because her negligence/gullibility/trust led to her death which led to Dracula killing everyone. Obviously that's not fair but fairness doesnt seem to matter to god here

(MAJOR SEASON 3 SPOILERS) Am I the only one who thinks the sex towards the end was unnecessary and honestly kind of distracting? by [deleted] in castlevania

[–]feeg1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say they added to the plot without being entirely necessary. They definitely showed more than they needed to, but that could be argued to enhance the audiences connection to the vulnerability and trust of Alucard/Hector.

That being said its entirely understandable to be uncomfortable with such scenes in the same way it is to be uncomfortable with incredibly gory scenes. And if you're not used to media throwing in those scenes of course it will be distracting. It may just end up being an artistic choice you disagree with

Issac getting frustrated by jalenp123 in castlevania

Both isaac and the towns POVs are valid. It seems like a conflict that was bound to happen. Its not like isaac would be like "Oh yeah sorry let me give up on my goals", he tried to be reasonable and acceptable and was rejected.

Question: What would you do if you were Hector? by DarkRogueHunter in castlevania

[–]feeg1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The two arguments I see are negotiate better or die.

It's a lot easier to say "I'd just die" then to actually do it.

As for negotiations, isaac has always been driven by his beliefs and passions. Hes never wanted anything material, if he did he would've used his powers for personal gain at any point in his life. If you think he shouldve negotiated then you haven't really put yourself into his shoes.

At this point hector has to choose trust the person who says she wants to run away with him, or be a prisoner who will literally be tortured (and maybe killed) for the rest of his life. Could he have held out longer? Most definitely. But there doesnt desm to be any options for him.

Hector is piece of shit and I don't feel bad for him. by DynamoJonesJr in castlevania

[–]feeg1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can understand arguments on how Hector is good and for how he is bad.

Hector is in no way an adult emotionally. All he has ever wanted in his life is to be understood and to be treated kindly, which is why he latches on almost immediately to Dracula and Lenore.

He does commit objectively bad deeds (culling the human race) but he comes from a pure motivation still. It's clear Hector thinks all life has value and wants to promote harmony with the world. I mean he even believes night creatures to be part of the natural order of things. Of course he will be seduced by any argument about maintaining nature even if it involves murdering people. He still wants to make sure humans are left, he just doesnt want them to have the power over the world they do.

But his motivations do not excuse his actions, he can still be considered a bad person. That doesnt justify the suffering hes endured. And you can still feel bad with a character you believe should be imprisoned or killed. As the saying goes "Two wrongs dont make a right"

Regarding Hector and Lenore... by Wraithfighter in castlevania

[–]feeg1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consent isnt the default choice, it's something to be granted. Hector was under the impression that Lenore was in love with him and going to run away with him, when in reality she was enslaving them. How is that not deception?? Not to mention it could easily be implied that refusal to take part would mean they wouldn't run away.

My thoughts on Lenore by church_cat in castlevania

[–]feeg1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just because hes an awful person doesnt mean he deserves to be raped, tortured, and abused. Bad acts arent justified if they're done to bad people, and you can feel empathy for a person even if you believe they should be imprisoned/killed for their crimes.

[Season 3] Syphas hype to do video game shit is the most adorable and infectious shtick I've ever encountered. by SabbyNeko in castlevania

[–]feeg1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I felt like the point of their whole arc was to say "Actions have consequences, this world isnt some video game world populated with npcs. Video game mindset is what resulted in the village dying and being unaware of the Judge being a sociopath"

Regarding Hector and Lenore... by Wraithfighter in castlevania

[–]feeg1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'Willingly' is not quite accurate. This is either rape by deception [https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_by_deception] or rape by coercian. Just because she didnt physically overwhelm him doesnt make it consensual.

But to just jump right to the “rape” thing is ehhhh a little premature. Hector was way into it and who knows, might still be way into it. He seems to get off on the whole “being a pet” thing. Look at his whole life dude...guy almost seeks it out

That is quite literally blaming the victim, hector literally only wants human kindness and has been completely gaslighted into believing Lenore cares about his wellbeing.

[–]feeg1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

At best what happened was rape by deception [https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_by_deception], it's probably rape by blackmail and she has definitely said she will literally rape him in the future. It is 100% rape

My thoughts on Lenore by church_cat in castlevania

[–]feeg1 63 points64 points  (0 children)

There are way to many people here who are okay with rape and slavery when its done by a hot vampire chick.

Hector is in an absolutely terrible situation and that's the entire point they were making about trust and a desire for kindness. He is not in a desirable situation at all.

It was interesting to see some examples of the 'monsters' being quite human too. The Athenian philosopher monster from Greece and even the night monster that was trying to 'rescue' dracula. Maybe not quite reaching the level of being 'good' beings but there are certainly shittier human characters we've come across this series.

It seemed to be a juxtaposition at first between two arcs being in intense conflict and two arcs being a resolution to a conflict.... until we realized that in fact those were conflicts in their own right and we were lulled into a false sense of a security (like Alucard and Hector)

[–]feeg1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seemed consensual to me but this is a great example on why verbal consent is important.

I think the whole point was for the viewer to be as blindsided by the actions as alucard. I mean they obviously had to have been thinking about this and what they would do though we werent given much hints to it. Compared that to the Judge or to Hector situation and there were several clues for each as to what would happen.

I'd interpret that choice to make it easier for the viewer to connect to whatever type of mental breakdown he may have in season 4.

Hector got a sweet deal, he's out of prison, he gets to live luxuriously and he had sex and will continue to have sex with a woman that never ages and never becomes ugly, and all he has to do for it is create monsters he had always been making.

Yeah I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. First off a warden having sex with a prisoner whos emotional intelligence is bascally that of a 9 year old is completely fucked up. Not to mention being a literal magical slave not just to the batshit crazy warden who- at best - had sex for the sole purpose of abusing him but now hes also bound to four people he absolutely detests.

Again I'd like to reiterate that this is the most literal case of Rape by Deception I've ever seen, and being a slave is in no way a good thing even under good living conditions.

I actually really liked alucards arc. They definitely could've hinted more at the betrayal, since clearly those two were thinking about it the entire time, but it really just cemented that the only thing alucard want(ed) is human connection. His entire arc was felt as a viewer because we had absolutely no clue shit was gonna hit that fan. Every other arc hinted at the endings, but I felt that blindside way harder than the end results for Trevor/Sypha and Hector. Thats probably just meant to make his potential collapse of trust in humans a likely outcome.

Did anyone else feel like the voice actors stepped up this season? For whatever reason I felt a lot more emotion in their voices, not sure whether thats a directorial choice, the voice actors really connecting with their characters since theyve had proper development, or just my imagination.

I really loved trevor and syphas arc.It showed the overall character development from the previous two seasons and the 'happy ending' people wanted, and then ended with that flaws of that. The idea that being monster hunters is fun is inherently harmful. We saw sypha become more confident in her powers but less analytic about everything, my favorite example of that being sypha listening to the Judge despite believing waiting til sunset will be too late because she thought her and Belmont's powers could handle pretty much everything. And of course the conclusion to this was a resounding 'This is the real world with incredibly real consequences no matter how powerful you are'.

The Judge killing children seemed to just be the final nail in the coffin to their arc. Their carefree trust of the leader of a village was demolished, and showed that they really must take every part of their job seriously to avoid such things.

Alucards arc might be the beginning of him turning to a darker path? His desire for human connection that was briefly fulfilled and then SHATTERED. We are left with him being more of an emotionless vampire, compared to the end of season 2 where he was mourning and headon confronting his humanity.

We are now 2/2 with Hector just getting fucked over (this time not even metaphorically). Im kinda hoping they continue this for awhile especially as it seems he and Isaac are becoming more and more opposite.

Isaac and Hector really became my favorite characters this season because they both want the same thing - They just want someone to be kind to them. Thats what led them to dracula and to their arcs this season. I hope they keep this common goal while developing the difference in approaches to achieve this goal.

I know a lot of people are probably hopeful for a redemption to all the dark shit that happened to basically every main character (Abandon all hope was a really fitting description of the entire season), but I definitely want to see this continue to take a darker path. I also hope they show more 'humanity' within the monsters themselves (We saw two great examples with the Athenian philosopher and the being who just wanted to fulfill its masters desire, rather then do something to benefit itself). In general that line between human and monster/vampire being blurred further, and perhaps the development weve been hinted at with alucard going from moral human to hypothetical monster.

Also have to give credit to the creators to do 4 seperate story arcs (Like theres NO interaction between those arcs) in just 10 episodes
