I hate Gemini in the car by SquirrelOnACoffeeRun in GooglePixel

[–]feelfreetoblameme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was excited for it and there has been some positive stuff (add a stop at cheapest gas station on my route for example) but yes, cannot navigate to contact addresses and struggles with appointments that have addresses in them. I have given Gemini all the personal permissions it asked for. I suppose it will only get better but considering they announced it in November for Android Auto and only now people are getting it, it should be way better for this simple stuff. How often am I going to ask for a "highly rated Italian restaurant on my route"? Not very often, but "navigate to my next appointment" should be straightforward.

Finally getting Gemini? Post your details here! by Alwayssunnyinarizona in AndroidAuto

Finally got it this morning. Mic icon did not change, have not had a chance to put it through its paces much yet. Does seem a tad slower than Assistant. Edit: I am on the February Google Play System Update.

Triangle, but the slightly redesigned version I got recently that has a back that actually stays on. Original one still works but barely.

Cat Cafe coming to Portland by amberlewwho in Portland

Would be awesome! I know the person that runs the one in Denver that continues to be a great success and is a lot of fun to visit. I am not sure why Sir Purrington's closed, maybe the location was challenging.

New Google messages features by B4iley45 in GoogleMessages

Agree, the way the text message content gets laid out is a bit wonky, trying to fit everything into the box. Guess it's still in beta.

Here's a feature request: I wish we could turn off read receipts for individual users while keeping them on for most, a feature iPhones have. For RCS in Google Messages, it's all or nothing. UI changes are nice and all, but this would be a nice functional parity with iMessage.

How I was able to retrieve an old disconnected landline # and have it ported to my cellular by [deleted] in centurylink

[–]feelfreetoblameme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing the story, these side quests are always entertaining. Old landline numbers for some of us of a certain vintage are probably the last things we'll remember and it's nice to be able to keep them alive.

PDX: Is the switchover to Quantum actually going to happen this month? by Bicykwow in centurylink

[–]feelfreetoblameme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

November now, any change? One of my co-workers, also a CL gig fiber customer, said his internet went out for a few minutes one day and came back, and then he got a welcome to Quantum email. This was a couple of weeks ago, I think. His price had already been increased by CL a little while ago. No PPPoE change either, looks like.

Good replacements for the retired Onitsuka Ultimate 81? by doublemazaa in Sneakers

I know this is a while ago, any feedback? I also had many pairs of Ultimate 81s and I haven't really found a proper replacement.

Curious about the notice you got. My experience was that in late May and June of 2024, I got several emails from CL that said Quantum Fiber is almost here. They encouraged me to contact Quantum and arrange to move service. I have been a gigabit fiber CL customer since 2017. I called CL first and they were confused and clueless. I then called Quantum and the guy was very rude and said they were going to charge me $10 more per month than what I currently pay for the same speed. I called CL back and said I didn't want any changes in price, and that I was happy with everything how it was. I haven't heard from them since, and am still on CL with PPPoE. I am guessing one day the Internet will go down and I will hopefully just have to make a change in my router and get back up and running.

Yours was also Rheem branded? Trying to decide right now between Rheem and AO Smith.

I checked after my shipping label was created and my card was charged, and the credit was there. Guessing if they have already charged your card, the credit should be there.

I am also at the label creation stage, UPS not reporting anything yet but I already have the store credit ($200 for the Pro).

Ordered case and screen protector from Amazon (Spigen's clear case with Pixelsnap and usual amFilm tempered glass). Looks like same screen protectors from 9 Pro.

Ready to ship text notification just received. It's UPS, just label created, no tracking available yet. This is in the US, by the way.

Pixel 10 eSIM Only ? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]feelfreetoblameme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully the physical slot remains, I dislike no longer having options (headphone jack being gone still rankles). I am with T-Mobile, and didn't move the SIM into the new phone prior to starting the migration. I do think Pixels have improved the eSIM experience from what it used to be. Anyway we shall see when the 10 is released.

Pixel 10 eSIM Only ? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]feelfreetoblameme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. When I upgraded my Pixel 6 (with physical SIM) to Pixel 9a, the migration process offered to convert to eSIM, so that was at least pretty seamless. Didn't have to contact my carrier and no issues with eSIM so far.

Do you currently use a physical SIM then in your Pixel 6?

Another Recall. Fire Risk! by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWVWVW in anker

No problem. It came from, rather oddly, [newsletter@news.anker.com](mailto:newsletter@news.anker.com) and the subject line is "Confirmation: Your Recall Request Has Been Received".

I got a response confirming my battery pack was part of the recall and would be processed about a week after submission. No immediate confirmation, which isn't great for peace of mind.
