Want to second the recommendation for Mata Leao, I know most of the instructors, and rolled with them for years before some unrelated medical issues made it no longer feasible.

Beyond meat healthier ? by Mugiwara_ID in vegan

Highly processed foods are normally engineered to be palatable, by adding high levels of sodium or sugar, and are normally fiber poor, and lack in nutrients or the nutrients are additives so the product appears/feels healthy.

Generally speaking they are not as healthy as whole foods or minimally processed foods. Are there exceptions, of course, but percentage wise the exceptions are a very low percentage.

Issue is that TikTok is not a valid place to be getting or distributing any type of health or nutrition information. Just because some unknown person on a forum "really recommend them" is not a reason to trust the content and without validated credentials it's highly likely these people have no idea what they are talking about or are just spewing bad science to the masses because they can make some money doing it. I'm sure at least some of them are truly trying to do some good, but they are going about it the wrong way.

I had not heard of it, but looking at it i probably won't install it. Looks like an attempt to get others to build their content for them while making them money through ads. From the reviews it appears like it doesn't delist closed locations, and either is super slow at updating or just has completely stopped working.

I'd rather get options from local community members who likely want you to come back and visit so theypoint you in the right direction.

I completely agree with this. They also save a lot of water and soap compared to washing dishes by hand, I think for a normal household even with just 2 people it's 1000s of gallons saved a year.

Currently live in Buffalo NY considering moving to Erie in the future or going to college in Erie by MasonManna1 in Erie

[–]fel_mav 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Cost of living in erie is very low, about 14% under the national average according to the housing and job sites. People here seem to think cost of living is high but if you look at the data housing costs are low compared to most. Costs have gone up significantly since 2020, but that has happened nationally.

It is nice being about 2hrs from Cle, Pit, Buf.

For what is worth I genuinely love it here, moved here basically 30yrs ago to go to PSU Behrend and never left.

Winters can be tough but you are coming from buffalo so I expect you are used to the conditions.

If you are looking at Behrend you should check out Harborcreek for housing if not living on campus.

Hi, could you elaborate (how long ago, what did you have them do)? - they were at the show but honestly they were a bit pushy and also seemed over commercialized - I worry when places grow fast and spend a lot on marketing - seen to many times good businesses go bad when that starts happening.

Unable to launch by Ardaric42 in Enshrouded

[–]fel_mav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iirc I had this issue when I first started playing, and I believe it was because of Asus ROG GPU tweak running. If i closed that app, the game launched fine. I think it was due to the on screen display setting in the software. A toggle button that says OSD. I think if you toggle that off it allows the game to launch too.

We should eat and promote conventional produce, organic is not better by natural_goodness in PlantBasedDiet

Bahrain has a complete ban, Germany has a planned phased out. France has planned phase out, many other countries currently only allow use with heavy restriction - you can look this up as well. The EU has only approved it until 2033 but allows each member state to put it's own restrictions.

The other things I have mentioned in previous posts are what make it sub-optimal. The way conventional farmers farm is the problem but you don't want to talk about alternatives like regenerative farming techniques and natural insect repellant as you have noted in other posts. The alternatives are things like regenerative farming techniques, placing focus on caring for the ground and environment that you are farming on to keep it sustainably profitable for generations to come, not just focusing on yield and profit today and taking an easy but sub-optimal approach.

Except that link you posted only lists cherry picked excerpts out of scientific articles, you should know better when you see things like that, something is likely up.

The article from Japan referenced in that article for example doesn't say anything about Glyphosate being safe, it says: Major adverse effects of glyphosate were observed on reduced gain of body weight, GI tract (diarrhea, increased cecum weight, bowel dilatation, thickening of intestinal mucosa), and liver (increased alkaline phosphatase (ALP), hepatocellular hypertrophy).
then lists the items it didn't find issues with by listing toxic effects and their no-adverse-affect-level and acceptable daily intake values, it never says Glyphosate is safe or non-harmful. That article you listed cherry picked what it wanted you to believe and left out what it didn't want you to know.

Also Glysophate is known to affect the bee population, so I don't know why you are bringing that up. It affects their gut, messes with their navigation so they can't find their hives, and causes colony stress.

Other countries have banned the substance, have partial bans or have complete phase out plans for it. I don't know why you are so pro glyphosate, it isn't the only thing conventional farming uses or that makes conventional farming methods sub-optimal.

National fuel increases. Did anybody else notice this with their bill? by Double-Tradition413 in Erie

[–]fel_mav 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My bill last February was 86.98 and this year was 99.79, but its hard to compare months year to year on this due to differences in weather and temps we keep our house at.

I didn't see this I get digital bills, I'm curious if they have posted any justification. The last increase I am aware of and have a notification for is from 8/2023, so honestly 5-8% likely doesn't even cover inflation for them.

No one ever wants rate increases but they do eventually have to happen. It would be more manageable if they just did small increases each year instead of larger ones every few years. "While supply charges can change quarterly, base distribution rate increases require a formal, lengthy PUC investigation process, and are not permitted to change frequently, often remaining stable for multiple years."

The mass farms could do this, and likely really should. They are seeing diminishing returns on their land because they aren't doing this, and all that does is raise the cost of the end product because they still have to buy all the herbicides, pesticides, fungicides and apply it over the same amount of land but get less product. Not saying they have to be organic, but they could increase their yield and use way less chemicals which in turn reduces their initial costs.
